[edit] Staging for Vicksburg
Hard Times Plantation selected as a staging area for a landing at Grand Gulf, Mississippi, about April 5, 1863. The Union occupied the plantation on April 23. The area was used as a concentration point for the Union XIII Corps under Maj. Gen. John A. McClernand of the Army of the Tennessee during April 23-28. Between the latter date and May 3 the plantation was used as a trans-shipping point on the supply line from Milliken's Bend to the Army of the Tennessee below Hard Times. The plantation was abandoned as a forward supply depot on May 4 after the Confederate evacuation of Grand Gulf.
