[edit] Formation

Har Ik Zehr formed in the summer of 2004 by Dar and guitarist Sharjeel Shaw in Jackson Heights, New York. Bassist Arvind Dilawar and drummer Richard Orjuela joined shortly after. After recording demo tracks for the songs “Zehr”/”Purple Days”, and opening for Pakistani rock bands Jal and Junoon, Shaw and Dilawar left the band. Without a bassist or 2nd guitarist, the future of Har Ik Zehr was up in the air until Dar found bassist Timothy Leung on the social networking website Friendster in the fall of 2005. They did not look for another guitarist after Leung’s joining of the band.

On April, 13, 2006, Har Ik Zehr performed their first show as a trio at Crash Mansion in New York City. They continued rehearsing and playing shows on a monthly basis while recording demo tracks for their songs “Mollah”/”Me, Myself, and I” at Spin Studios with Themi Kyriazis. These songs would eventually be released as part of their 6 song demo/EP in November of 2006.

[edit] Philosophy

Har Ik Zehr is a bridge between cultures. To cast away misconceptions, stereotypes, negativity, and fear. To embrace diversity and use music as a vehicle to bring people together.
