Happy Man was the Irish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, performed in English by Cathal Dunne.
The song is a moderately up-tempo number, in which Dunne contrasts his early despondency with the joy he feels now that he is with his lover. He sings, for example, that he now has "the sun inside" and that he is the tititular "happy man".
The song was performed fourth on the night (following Denmark's Tommy Seebach with Disco Tango and preceding Finland's Katri Helena with Katson Sineen Taivaan). At the close of voting, it had received 80 points, placing 5th in a field of 19.
It was succeeded as Irish representative at the 1980 Contest by Johnny Logan with What's Another Year?.
