The film shows scenes from the life of 30-year old unmarried woman Poppy: her work as teacher of young children, her driving lessons, a flamenco dancing lesson, an encounter with a homeless man, and a love-affair with the social worker guiding an aggressive pupil of Poppy.

Competing at the Berlinale in 2008, it won Sally Hawkins the Silver Bear for best actress. The premiere for the film was held in Camden Town where the film is set on April 14, 2008.

Locations used in the film include Camden Market and Regent’s Park boating lake.[1]
