Hapoel Katamon Football Club (Hebrew: מועדון כדורגל הפועל קטמון‎) is an Israeli association football club in Jerusalem, Israel. It was established by a group of Hapoel Jerusalem fans who were dissatisfied with how the club was being run and managed. The club is one of the first in Israel to be owned by its fans.[1] The club is named after the Jerusalem neighborhood of Katamon, where Hapoel Jerusalem had a stadium.

[edit] History

Supporters pitched in to buy Hapoel Mevasseret Zion/Abu Ghosh F.C. to allow the club to start off in Liga Alef rather than the lowest tier of Israeli football.

The driving spirit behind Hapoel Katamon Abu-Ghosh-Mevasseret soccer club was Alon Liel, a former Israeli ambassador to South Africa, who is now the club's president. The club is a vehicle for peaceful cooperation between Jews and Arabs, bringing together players from Abu Ghosh and Mevaseret Zion.[2]

In November 2007, the club played its first game at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem, after outgrowing its 300-seat home base in Mevasseret.[3]
