The article was prodded with he comment: " He is certainly notable enough for inclusion in the German wiki, but there is no proof of notability for inclusion here. According to IMDB, he has done no work in English media"

But it is well established at WP that notability is worldwide. The enWP is the WP written in english, and covers all things notable anywhere about which people are able to write a WP article. This tends to empahsise things best known in the English-speaking world, but that's just incidental--and in fct, we make an effort to try to overcome such cultural bias.
