Talk:Hand-stopping

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The article mentions the debate about whether hand-stopping raises or lowers the pitch. There is no question that hand-stopping does something; the debate is about what it does. The difference of opinion comes about because there are different ways of measuring and thinking about what happens. I've tried to explain how it is that the shift can be described as either a raising or a lowering [French Horn Stopping -- Why the pitch shift? ], and the horn players and physicists I've talked to have agreed with my explanation. I'd like to add something to this page, but since it's a point of disagreement, I'd like to have some consensus about what is appropriate. Musanim 02:43, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Musanim
