Hansa-Preis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hansa-Preis is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 2,400 metres (approximately 1½ miles) at Hamburg-Horn Racecourse, Hamburg and takes place annually in June.
It was first run in 1892 as the Grosser Hansa-Preis, and in 1902 and 1927 it was titled the Jubiläums-Preis (translated to English, the Anniversary Prize). The 1944 race was run at Dresden, but aside from cancellations it has otherwise continually taken place at Hamburg. In 1962 it was run as the Grosser Preis von Berlin, which is also a former title of the Deutschland-Preis.
The race has maintained Group 2 status since 1972 and it was contested over 2,200 metres prior to 2008.
