Hans Orifice (aka Jim Thompson) was ultimately the same character as GWAR drummer Hans Sphincter, who underwent a name change in 1987. Later that year he left the band to go on sabattical in the Himalayas where he studied mysticism with the legendary Yeti Llamas. (Actually, Thompson left because of touring commitments with his main band, the Alter Natives, who released three albums on SST Records). In 1989, Hans Orifice briefly returned to the band, only to leave again to study Necro Voo-Doo Doo-Doo in the swamps of Louisiana, being replaced by current drummer Jizmak Da Gusha.

In 2000, Thompson joined with Bob Miller and formed an experimental group called Plasmodium, described as "Using a dizzying array of drum loops, keyboards, trumpets, diodes, crystals, mirrors, and audio-visual surveillance monitors finetuned to paranormal frequencies, Plasmodium gives the psychic phenomenon known as clairaudience a sound, so to speak, and they paint a "sound-surveillance" portrait of sonic apparitions that they channel in their laboratories." They have released one CD on Dry County Records, named "Clairaudience."
