Hannagan Meadow, Arizona
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hannagan Meadow Lodge was established in 1926 due to the construction of U.S. Route 191, also known as the Coronado Trail Scenic Byway. The lodge offers numerous rental cabins, rooms for rent and a general store. At 9,100 feet (2,774 m) elevation, the Lodge is the highest point in Arizona to be inhabited throughout the entire year.
It is named after Robert Hannagan, a Nevada miner and cattle rancher. Hannagan won a coin flip with Toles Cosper upon discovering the meadow during the 1870s. This was the second discovery as the area is believed to have been traveled by the explorer Coronado in the 1540s.

Hannagan Meadow Lodge was established in 1926 due to the construction of Arizona Route 81, now known as the Coronado Trail Scenic Byway. It became US-666 in the late 1930s after the Canada-to-Mexico Highway Association urged a north-south federal highway be designated. In 1992, the federal highway number was changed from US-666 to US-191.
