"Hanging on the Telephone" is a song by American New Wave band Blondie. A 1960s-style song originally performed by The Nerves, the song is the opening track on Blondie's 1978 album, Parallel Lines. Many people are unaware that Blondie is not the original artist of the song, which was written by Jack Lee and first performed by Lee's short-lived West Coast power pop trio The Nerves, who placed it as the lead-off track on their 1976 EP, the band's only release.

One of Blondie's best-known songs, the track was released as the second single off Parallel Lines in both the US and the UK, eventually reaching number 5 in the UK in November 1978 as well as inspiring other cover versions.
