Handia is located at 25.38° N 82.18° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 92 metres (301 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Handia had a population of 16,412. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Handia has an average literacy rate of 52%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 63%, and female literacy is 39%. In Handia, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. Handia has the one of the oldest polytechnics of the country,the handia polytechnic was innaugerated by the first prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru in year 1956 to further the rural developement ever since it has provided numerous diploma holders in various branches of engineering.
