A hand grenade is a strong mixed drink sold at only four locations owned by Tropical Isle, Inc in New Orleans, LA. The drink has a melon taste, is colored yellow-green, and comes in a plastic half-yard glass shaped like a hand grenade at the bottom, with smaller plastic grenades inside the container. It is extremely popular among tourists in the French Quarter, and it has even been featured in songs by Ludacris and other artists. The exact recipe is a trade secret; as such, no legal protections exist against reverse engineering (as they would for a patent). An alleged recipe for the drink is widely circulated, consisting of various liqueurs and liquors. In addition to the beverage itself, Tropical Isle also sells a hand grenade mix in quart and gallon-sized plastic bottles.
While the exact recipe is indeed a trade secret, a popular version consists of the following mix:
Directions: Mix all ingredients together and add water and ice as necessary for desired taste. Sugar can also be added for taste (use sparingly to avoid over-sweetening).
