[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Hrtlogosh.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Hrtlogosh.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:47, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Queen Mother's Funeral Procession.JPG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Queen Mother's Funeral Procession.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 02:26, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Tworonnies.JPG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tworonnies.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Royal Yeomanry cap badge.PNG)
Thanks for uploading Image:Royal Yeomanry cap badge.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:54, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Page moves
Argh!
Please don't do "redirect and paste" moves like you did at London Waterloo to London Waterloo station - this really messes up the page histories, since the article text is now seperated from the people who wrote it. I've reverted the changes and moved the page properly. Shimgray | talk | 00:45, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Edit Summary
Hi, I have noticed that you have made amendments to a number of railway articles today. As you did not mark them as being minor edits, and left no edit summary it had been a real job to ascertain what changes you have made.
Please could you be so kind as to give an edit summary, no matter how brief, in the future, stating what you have altered. If the changes are slight, and unlikely to cause anyone any fuss, then please could you also tick the "minor edit" box too. Your consideration towards other editors will be much appreciated. Thank you.Olana North (talk) 15:16, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Cameronians.gif
I have tagged Image:Cameronians.gif as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 21:06, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Australian AWD.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Australian AWD.jpg.
Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 05:25, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Remove fair use issues from image
Hammersfan, I see that you removed the fair use request from Image:Cameronians.gif and Image:Australian AWD.jpg. However, each of those images still requires a detailed fair-use rationale. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:20, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Images
Hi. Please see Image:Australian AWD.jpg and notice what I've done. Per our image policy you must add a detailed fair use rationale for each article an image is used in. I've done if for you, see here. In the future, please add these rationales to any images you upload, or they could, and probably will be deleted. For more information, see WP:FURG. Thanks Rjd0060 (talk) 14:18, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:2e est.PNG)
Thanks for uploading Image:2e est.PNG.
Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:16, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Midland Metro and Wolverhampton
Just to let you know, I've removed the Midland Metro "interchanges" at Wolverhampton from all the heavy rail lines you've added them in to today. The reason I've done this is because the High Level station is actually quite some way away from St George's Metro; it's probably a similar distance to that between Birmingham New Street and Snow Hill. It's really a case of both are in the city centre, but in no sense could you suggest that they were an interchange. Fingerpuppet (talk) 20:51, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries
Hi, please, please, please will you start using edit summaries when you make edits. Having looked at your contributions, I can see that you practiacally never use them, which for an experienced editor like you is really not acceptable. It's a real nuisance for other editors. Furthermore, you've been asked this repeatedly in the past, going back for years [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]. The summaries don't have to be imaginative, just informative, for the sake of other editors (myself included), who want to tell what you've been up to without having to load every single page you've edited. I'm asking nicely, but don't say I didn't warn you if someone asks you less politely! Thanks, --RFBailey (talk) 20:15, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have to agree with RFBailey on this. You need to communicate more with other users, not only through edit summaries but also through talk pages. Your usage statistics show a high number of article edits, but relatively little on talk pages. By communicating more, you will earn more trust and respect from the community. If you tick the box marked Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary in the editing section of your preferences, you'll soon get into the habit of it. As RFBailey says, you don't have to put much - e.g. see this one! Tivedshambo (talk) 20:49, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:VSOE art lnk
A tag has been placed on Template:VSOE art lnk requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

[edit] Southern electric
Interesting! It wasn't like that 20 years ago! I got the Motive Power Recognition 3: EMU (dating from c.1985) and a couple of mid- to late-80s Ian Allan ABC right here! Would be unusual for acronyms to be written in smaller case? Even more so given that EPB is just another acronym and so would be an exception? best, Sunil060902 (talk) 23:57, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- OH they forgot the MLV and GLV too! Sunil060902 (talk) 00:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- And its not just Ian Allan publications, there's some by OPC, like 100 Years of Electric Traction, again dating from the 1980s. I would stick my neck out and suggest that since Wikipedia craves consistency, capitals should be used to correspond with EPB/GLV/MLV. best, Sunil060902 (talk) 12:28, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Occam's Razor would point against a wide variety of publications by different authors and publishing houses being inaccurate. At least I think! Also why should "Cep" be small case and "EPB" be capitals? Corridor Electropneumatic is just as much an acronym as Electropneumatic Brake. I think SEG have their wires crossed, but who knows? best, Sunil060902 (talk) 14:09, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think the real clincher would be the rear quarter view, well close-up, of a southern carriage (any Pre-TOPS stock will do) showing the Class info/specs "sticker". Seen any online? I tried looking but can't find any. May need to scan my books just to illustrate the point, though would obviously break copyright. As always assume good faith, but that goes for both of us of course (reluctant to mail Seg, I mean SEG (LOL!!!) without pictorial evidence). best, Sunil060902 (talk) 14:22, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Tworonniesspecs.JPG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tworonniesspecs.JPG.
Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 21:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Heathrow Connect
I've reverted your edits to this article. Heathrow Connect is not a company - it's a branded service of Heathrow Express Ltd, to which FGW have handed over part of their access rights to allow it to run. First Great Western (or First Group) don't own it, and I think using the "joint venture" description that appears in press releases is not helpful. --Mr Thant (talk) 15:45, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't mean to start an argument and it was a bit hasty of me to revert your edit so quickly, and I apologise. But I think you've still got the wrong end of the stick regarding what Heathrow Connect is. They mean "joint venture" in the sense of a partnership (they operate the service together) rather than the more common sense of a company they set up and own together, which is why I think it's not a good idea to use those words in the article.
- Anyway, I've put in a more nuanced description of the structure - my earlier description (including the one above) wasn't quite right. But still, "Heathrow Connect" is just a brand name and not a company or a TOC. --Mr Thant (talk) 01:53, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Apollo 8
Hi. I notice that you're correcting links to the crew members of various Apollo-era and earlier spaceflights. However, in the case of Apollo 8, you replaced several paragraphs of prose (and several references) with a bulleted list. While several other spaceflight articles have such lists, this article was expanded during a Featured Article Review, so - if possible - I'd like to keep the prose and references in place. Can we discuss this? Thanks in advance, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 23:27, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have to disagree, as I can't think of a way in which a list is better than a prose section that conveys the same information. The prose doesn't note previous spaceflights explicitly, so that can be added - but I think it might be better to convert the other spaceflight articles to prose in a similar fashion (or, at least, the ones in the Apollo program). Would that be better? UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 23:50, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- Fair enough, I'm sold. However, if you get a chance, could you restore the reference (#2) that seems to be broken? I can't seem to figure out which one it is, but it's likely one of the ones removed from that section. Thanks again, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 02:56, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

- Nevermind, I've got the references fixed. Thanks, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 03:00, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Thalys logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Thanks for uploading Image:10th Light Horse Regiment badge.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Argyll_and_Sutherland_Highlanders.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Argyll_and_Sutherland_Highlanders.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:52, 22 April 2008 (UTC). [edit] London District (British Army)
Instead of reverting correct information go to the discussion of London district and discuss! --noclador (talk) 11:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- Coldstream Guards are at Windsor & Welsh Guards are at Wellington Barracks - you are correct; I mixed that up.
- 2RRF, not 2 MERCIAN - you're indeed correct: the change was January 08 - I got my info from the London District homepage - obviously the 2 RRF is much quicker with homepage updating than the London District...
- incremental companies hold the traditions of the 2nd battalions, which are in suspended animation - as the 3 companies link to an article about it, we can leave it at this.
- When will Cavalry Barracks close? If I remember right 16 Royal Artillery left the Royal Artillery Barracks in July 07 and the incremental companies and public duties line infantry battalion are supposed to move there this year. Do you know when the move will occur?
- re: out of date: as postings to the London districts are (as far as I know) 3 years - so plenty of time the units can be in the article and 1 change a years won't be a problem.
- re 3 CDO BDE - as it is now: any errors? Now it clearly differentiates between 3 CDO BDE and the Royal Marines as a whole and the Army units are in a different colour than the rest - any other changes you think that are needed?
- next time ask me to change the graphic - I will do it! also I update the graphics constantly - so next time a unit in the London district changes I will update the graphic once more
- more pressing questions: have a look at: commons:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Military_OrBat_Graphics/UK I spend 3 days trying to piece together a complete OrBat of the British Army - but the homepages is absolutely confusing (especially regarding Logistics and TA). As you seem to be the best informed Wikipedian in all things British Army could you have a look at the graphics and check if and which units might be wrongly assigned? also: what units make up 104 Logistic Brigade? who commands 16 Air Assault Brig: Joint Helicopter Command, 3 Division or 5 Division??? thanks for any info on the British Army structure. --noclador (talk) 13:54, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Thanks a lot man
User pages use a subpage structure (see Wikipedia:Subpages). The software only recognizes subpages as pages following a / in certain namespaces. (Which is why things like talk page archives are always /Archive_1, /Archive_2, etc.) Thus, your page wasn't in your user space, but was in fact floating in the user namespace. If you would like the pages restored, please let me know. Cheers. --MZMcBride (talk) 01:33, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Future to Prospective
I can see your point of view, but wish to draw your attention to several points:
- I implied on a few talk pages what I was going to do a good while before I made changed. Noone raised any issues at that point.
- When I reddid the templates a while back (simplifying the names, including the switch to "Future," it was raised about Future could be bad as many of them are pipe dreams.
- It would be fairly impossible for Glasgow Trains starting this year as train paths have been sorted for the WCML high intensity timetable. The company (and Network Rail) said that any proposals would have to wait until things have settled down. Furthermore, GT have yet to decide on a route (as far as I know)!
- Virign's competition rule may rule out any GT until at least 2012.

[edit] British Army
- 3 MERCIAN part of 12 Brigade: Are you sure? According to the entry here at British Army Infantry#Permanent Deployments 3 MERCIAN is supposed to be part of 7th Armoured Brigade - I based my graphic on the info there...
- Support units directly attached to Brigade, not detached from Division: hmm,... I thought so too, but then I found this site http://www.army.mod.uk/1div/organisation/index.htm - according to it all support units are detached from the Division to the Brigades. The homepage of the 20th Armoured Brigades indicates too, that all support units are not part of the Brigade http://www.army.mod.uk/20bde/units.htm Could you please clarify this issue?
- Full unit names - fine with me, as long as there are no redirects necessary.
- 12th Mechanised Brigade: This can't be right: 1 Royal Anglian is part of 1 Mech Brigade; 3 Mercian (see point above) and the 2 Fusiliers is - as you said on April 30th: London districts "line infantry battalion has just changed - it is now 2RRF, not 2 MERCIAN". Therefore 2 Fusiliers can not be part of 12 Mech. Brig!
-
- damn confusing the British Army! :-) what I'm interested in is to create good graphic of the structures of Armies - I had to patch together the necessary info from a dozens sources (which way to often contradicted itself...) Let me now, when you have finished updating the Brigades articles and I will quickly update the graphics too with the changes you made. greetings, --noclador (talk) 16:23, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

- What is the Light role Btn. for 4 Mech??? 1 MERCIAN or 1 IG - in your list both are assigned to 1 Mech; As far as I know 1 Irish Guards is the Light role Btn. of 1 Mech and 1 Mercian the Light role Btn. of 4 Mech.
- 9/12th Lancers belongs to which unit? My info is that it belongs to 7 Armoured (http://www.army.mod.uk/7bde/7th_brigade_units_.htm) but you removed it http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=7th_Armoured_Brigade_%28United_Kingdom%29&diff=210347971&oldid=210339078 - could you please check to which unit it belongs? thanks (PS: I'm already updating the graphics :-)
- 2 PWRR & 2 LANCS are the 2 Btn. in Cyprus - question: under what command fall British Forces Cyprus? Or should we leave the British Forces Cyprus out of the graphic of the British Field Army?
- 11 Brigade: should we add this Brigade to the graphic? (would take about 10 minutes to do so) If yes: to which command or to which Division does it belong? (in that case I would remove the units of 11 Brigade from the other Brigades and move them back in 2010... if 11 Brig will really be disbanded then ;-) --noclador (talk) 18:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Railway stations
Nobody, including yourself, is to add or remove a railway station without discussing it first AND an agreement has been reached. If you have a problem, discuss it and wait until an agreement has been reached. If you continue not to do this, its is treated as vandalism and you will be reported to adminstration leading to a block on you editing. WL (talk) 17:23, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I've put it up for vote. If you make a personal attack against me again, I will report you to administration. WL (talk) 16:38, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Enterprise
If you wish to be picky, the class 111 is not a DEMU either, neither are the carriages powered, so why are they listed in this section? The Enterprise is half owned by NIR, is used by NIR so is part of the fleet. On occassion, the class 111 has been used on the Dublin run and 8112 is actually stationed in Dublin for long periods of time. So I disagree that the Enterprise shouldn't be listed on this page as well. Jimmy1109 (talk) 12:11, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
