Talk:Hammasa Kohistani
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Ethnicity and Languages
Hammasa Kohistani is an ethnic Tajik from Panjsher, Afghanistan - a region which is also known as "Kohistan". In the past, the expression "Kohistani" used to be a synonym for Tajiks, like in the case of Amir Habibullah Kalakani (also know as "Bacha-i-Saqao") and his "Kohistani reign":
- "... Habibullah Kalakani (also known as Bacha Saqqao, the Tajik warlord of Kohistan) drove Amanullah from the throne and ruled Kabul for 10 months. In late 1929 Habibullah was defeated and executed by a Pushtun tribal army led by the former commander of Amanullah's army, Mohammad Nadir Shah, who subsequently became king (1929-1933) ..."
Taken from the "Online Ecyclopaedia":
- "... An important district also known as Kohistan lies to the north of Kabul in Afghanistan, extending to the Hindu Kush. The Kohistani Tajiks proved to be the most powerful and the best organized clans that opposed the British occupation of Kabul in 1879-80. ..."
Miss Kohistani's mother-tongue is Persian:
"... The brunette, who speaks six languages including Russian and Persian, was selected from 40 contestants. ..."

[edit] New picture
I think this is a bad picture of her. We should get a better picture. I will try to change it. But I've never used Wikibefore, so my attempt my fail. If I can't change it, maybe you guys can help.
I think we should use this picture instead: http://www.missenglandwinner.co.uk/photos/Portfolio/hammasa_np5.jpg
Also, I think the 1st picture we have of her is not a good one. Infact, it is the worst picture of her that I have seen. I don't think she really is that ugly. That was just a bad picture.
I think we should remove the 1st picture and replace it with this one: http://www.missenglandwinner.co.uk/photos/Portfolio/hammasa_np6.jpg
- The first picture, which I uploaded, shows her winning the Miss England crown which is relevant to the article. It is a cropped, fair use image used by many media sites, and it isn't relevant that you (personally) think she looked ugly on the day that she won Miss England. The site that you have taken your picture from clearly states that they are copyrighted and may not be used without permission, yet the image page states that it is a cropped version of a larger image? But I don't see why both images cannot be used. Thanks. — Lee J Haywood 21:23, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
I see your point. You think we need a picture of her winning the crown. I personally dont. I dont think we need to see her with a crown on. Its not that important.
But still, if you insist, instead of that picture we could use another one. That picture is just not believable. I dont even think thats her. Unless, she got plastic surgery.
If you really insist on a crown, then we could use this one: http://www.national-student.co.uk/National%20news/Miss%20England.jpg or http://images.scotsman.com/2005/09/05/0509missb.jpg
(its not copyrighted)
So if anyone could replace that pic with those ones ^, that would be much better.
- no need to replace that pic ... everything's fine. It's a nice picture Tajik 13:59, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
I strongly think that MOST people would side with me and disagree with you. Most people would agree with me that that is a bad picture. Therefore, I will take the initiative to adjust that picture myself.
- If you guys insist of having a picture with a crown, you could add this one: http://www.persianmirror.com/images/edtorial/2006/hamasehkoohestani/hamasehkoohestani7.jpg
-
- I don't think that is a bad picture at all. I actually think it looks good. Maybe you can add it back. Behnam 05:28, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

- Why is the poll closed? And it is also possible, to add a kind of gallery with pictures at the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rob van Doorn (talk • contribs)
It was closed because I said I will close it on August 1, 2006, and it was opened June 20, 2006, which means it was open for more than a month. And looking at the votes, it was an overlwhelming majority (5/6) voting for that picture. If you feel that you have a picture that was not considered, please present it to us so we can consider it. Also, if you want a gallery, why not be bold and start it yourself? =) --Ķĩřβȳ♥ŤįɱéØ 06:32, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wait a Minute: How do we know she's Muslim?
Does she believe in Islam or are you ethnically labeling her as a Muslim? For instance under Heidi Klum page I doubt you'll find a statement by some nutjob muslim (ie nutjob chrsitian in the former case) describing her as the first Christian supermodel to cohost FIFA world cup.

[edit] She is Uzbek and Pashtun
Why does it say she is Tajik from Afghanistan without showing proof? According to some evidence here it mentions that her father is Uzbek and her mother is Pashtun.
"A friend of mine is a relative of Hammasa. She has brought shame to her family. Her father is Uzbek and her mother is Pushtun. Her mum is against it though. In fact, most of her Pushtun relatives didn't know about it till she got crowned Miss England!" [8]--119.30.72.58 (talk) 21:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- That is some peoples POV on internet forums wanting her to be Pashtun or Uzbek. Do not use some comments on internet forums as sources. She said herself in a BBC Persian interview that she is Tajik (listen to her say she is Tajik).
-
- Writing her ethnic background as Tajik in here is also POV of people wanting her to be Tajik. At least you can contact that person who said she knows her relatives and try to find out the truth. I watched the youtube video and she DOES NOT say she is ethnic Tajik. The man asks her "Where in Afghanistan are you from?" and she answers by saying that she is from the Tajik-area. That does not mean she is ethnic Tajik. Also, her father's name is Khushal and that is clearly a Pashtun name. See Khushal Khan Khattak. I don't care which is it, I am interested in knowing her real ethnic background.--119.30.72.110 (talk) 17:58, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

-
- Do you have trouble hearing? Listen to herself say clearly on the BBC Persian interview that she is Tajik. Also, stop making wild speculations and false claims. Khoshal is a Persian word. You are saying that because one Pashtun calls himself a Persian word then all people with that name are Pashtun? That is ridiculous. Listen to herself say she is Tajik and that's the end of the story

- Kharkuss Toronto parsiban, I clearly heard the conversation and there was no such question asking about her ethnic background. Most likely she told off mic not to ask her deep personal questions which she was not going to answer. When someone is Afghan national, meaning Afghanistan's citizen and speaking to you in Farsi, there is no need to go ask further questions about which tribe her father or mother belongs to. Most people in Afghanistan keep these things hidden from public because of hate wars, and you should know this very well so I don't need to explain more. She is an international celebrity now and as usual people like that want to keep some of their personal information hidden from the media. Her father's name is KHUSHAL and you know that is a popular Pashtun male's name. Hammasa's face is typical Pashtun face, Tajik girls look Mongoloid like the one in this photo on the right. I have several Tajik online girlfriends and I know what I'm talking about.--119.30.67.148 (talk) 13:35, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

- This banned user: NisarKand is either deaf or delusional if he cannot hear her say clearly she is Tajik in her interview with BBC. He claims that since her father's name is Khoshal he is Pashtun. That is ridiculous since Khoshal is a Persian word meaning happy (see here for example). He has provided no source to back up his false Pashtun nationalist claims other than this speculation which makes no sense since Khoshal is a Persian word. This user: NisarKand is just her to vandalize and be silly.

[edit] Hamassa Kohistani's ethnicity
Hamassa Kohistan in an interview with BBC PERSIAN(TAJIKISTAN) said she was a Tajik from Afghanistan. You can listen to the Radio interview in this link [9]
- First, you (User:Anoshirawan) are the banned User:Tajik using a US proxy server and soon I will report you to admins. Someone in USA is allowing you to use their IP as a proxy. Second, Hammasa does not say she is ethnic Tajik in that interview on the radio. Stop your lies once and for all.--119.30.66.245 (talk) 20:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- Anyone who can speak Persian can listen for themselves and confirm that she said she is Tajik in her interview with BBC Persian. Even if you don't know Persian you can still listen and hear her say Tajik. Stop with your silly lies. Your just wasting everyone's time.
-
-
- She mentions all of these names several times: "Afghan", "Afghanistan", "Uzbek", "Uzbekistan", "Tajik" and "Tajikistan". The guy simply asked "where in Afghanistan you from?" and she says "from the tajik-area", refering to where most tajiks live and that is the area north of Kabul. She did not say she is tajik, give up your lies Kharkuss inferior Shiite parsibaan.
-
Shumah az Tajik haye Afghanistan hasten ya az Pashtun hayesh.... and She replied " Az Tajik hayesh". Now this obviously shows you are an ignorant person by fabricating hamassa kohistani's own words. Kohistan did not say " man az manteqeh Tajika astom" She said "Man az Tajikay Afghanistan astom".--Anoshirawan 00:39, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- That part of the interview translates to English like this: "You are from the Tajik side of Afghanistan (north) or from the Pashtun side (south)... and She replied "from Tajik side" (meaning she is northern-Kohistani). It is a geographical question, not about her ethnic background. Kohistan is an old name for an area that is now half Tajik area (north) and the other is Pashtun area (south). However, someone may easily twist this and say it is about her ethnic background. Now this obviously shows you (banned User:Tajik) are twisting Kohistani's words to serve your tajik nationalistic POV. The key word "ethnic" (in Farsi: "Ghome") was never mentioned in the whole interview. Northern Afghanistan may be mostly Tajiks but there are Pashtuns and others also. [10] Her father's name is Khushal, which is very unlikely for a Tajik to be named such. It is popular Pashtun name for males, see Khushal Khan Khattak. Name any Persian or Tajik man with Khushal?--119.30.79.125 (talk) 14:39, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- According this site, she is ethnic Afghan (Pashtun).--119.30.79.164 (talk) 21:08, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hammasa Kohistani stated her Tajik ethnicty with BBC Persian
Here is an official link to her interview with BBC Persian where she clearly said that her ethnicity is Tajik.
- That site is in Persian language and not in English. According this site, which is in English, she is ethnic Afghan (Pashtun).--119.30.79.164 (talk) 21:10, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- Her saying that she is Tajik in an interview on BBC Persian is more reliable than comments on forums or amateurish sites like Afghanland.com. Also Afghanland does not mention her being Pashtun, they do not mean Pashtun by "ethnic Afghan". Even if they did that would contradict her own words.
-
-
- Banned User:Beh-nam who is ashamed to sign his messages, the BBC Persian page cannot be understood by English-speaking editors here so it's useless because this is the English version Wikipedia. Plus, I already explained that she did not disclose her ethnic background in that BBC Persian interview. She only told that she or her family originates from northern Afghanistan. Afghanland.com is pretty reliable and the information displayed about her on that site is originally from The Guardian, see all the way down at the bottom left of the page where it says Source: the Guardian.--119.30.68.119 (talk) 14:38, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
-
Either your Persian is very weak or you are just fooling around here. The interview went as follows (this is the exact translation) and someone from WikiProject Iran can come here and confirm it:
- Interviewer: You are of the Tajiks of Afghanistan... or Pashtuns?
- Hammasa: Of its Tajiks.
- Of its Tajiks? What the hell does that mean? Why the question only mentions Tajiks and Pashtuns? Afghanistan is a multi-ethnic nation with Pashtuns, Turkmen, Baloch, Uzbek, Hazara, Tajiks, Pashais, Nuristanis, Aimaks and many others. Regardless what language they speak, not everyone are Pashtuns and Tajiks.--119.30.70.67 (talk) 17:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- I am giving the word for word translation. English grammar is different from Persian grammar.
- They asked her Tajik first and then Pashtun because she looks like Tajik or Pashtun. She does not look like Hazara, Uzbek or Turkmen. She could have been Nuristani or Baloch but they are small groups. It was most likely that she was Tajik then Pashtun so that is the order they asked her in, and she responded Tajik.
-
-
- That's your opinion, but we have a different opinion. I'm no claiming her to be any ethnic but in order for you to make her Tajik you would need clear proof like how you have clear proof for Hamid Karzai and Zalmay Khalilzad as being ethnic Pashtuns. There needs to be at least one reliable sources that explains her ethnic background in english text. Now there is nothing wrong with this you low life.
-
-
-
-
- Someone stating their own ethnicity in an interview is as reliable source as you can get
-
-
-
-
-
-
- It depends on the circumstances, if it is in English then it's fine but her interview is in Persian and this is English Wikipedia, how do you expect English speakers to understand her Persian words? Besides, she didn't say she was ethnic Tajik because the Persian word "Ghome" (meaning Ethnic or Ethnicity) was not mentioned at all. This is an unreliable source and you should accept the truth you low life online thug. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.30.69.18 (talk) 23:37, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

- One does not need to include the word ethnicity to ask for someone's ethnicity. I can ask you: "Are you Panjabi or Pashtun?". Your answer will make it clear what is your ethnicity.

-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- That's true but my challenge was not only based on that. There are other indications that she may not be Tajik, as her father's name is Khushal (NON-TAJIK) and she DID NOT SAY "I'm Tajik". Even you admitted that in your previous message here, asshole.
