Disston is mentioned in a work of fiction by Carl Hiassen called "Skinny dip". Hiassen is a writer whose [ humorous] books contain eccentric characters which are set mainly in South Florida. In the book he mentions that the destruction of the Florida Everglades started with Hamilton Disston. I recommend the book as an easy, fun read.
