Is it fair to describe her as a Muslim feminist, and if so, can you add her to that category and article? BrainyBabe (talk) 07:54, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

While technically it seems fair (she did found the Muslim Women's Caucasian Benevolent Society), the Wikipedia article specifically defines Islamic feminists as those who "seek to highlight the deeply rooted teachings of equality in the Quran." I'm not sure how accurate it is to describe Hamida Javanshir as such, since I did not find any information on her fighting against faith-driven social constraints by appealing to religion, nor emphasizing religion at all in the work she was carrying out. From the available sources, we don't even know how devout of a Muslim Javanshir herself was. Parishan (talk) 09:14, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for this response and extra info. But see Muslim feminism#Islamic feminists, Muslim feminists and Islamists. Muslim feminists can be secular feminists within an Islamic context, not necessarily devout. Founding this organisation would indicate that she fits within that context.
