Hamilton, Ontario is a port city on the western end of Lake Ontario in Southern Ontario, Canada. The city has a population of 504,559 according to the Canada 2006 Census. The metropolitan area of Hamilton has a population of 692,911, making it the third largest metropolitan area in all of Ontario, after Toronto (metropolitan area population: roughly 5 million), and Ottawa (metropolitan area population: roughly 1 million). The city is part of the Golden Horseshoe and the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor. The local economy revolve around steel and manufacturing sectors, but recent developments "shifted" the economy to health and sciences sector. The city is recently amalgamated with Dundas, Ancaster, and Stoney Creek as one bigger city in the year 2001.
