[edit] Boundaries

Following their review of parliamentary representation in North London, the Boundary Commission for England has created a new constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn by excluding Highgate ward (now to be part of Holborn & St Pancras) and including three wards from the neighbouring borough of Brent.

Some areas here are amongst the wealthiest in the UK, but the seat has a somewhat intellectual middle-class vote,[citation needed] which the Tories cannot always take as voting for them; it also has Kilburn, with its large Irish community. Glenda Jackson has yet to announce whether she intends to seek re-election in the new seat. She was never one of former Prime Minister Tony Blair's greatest supporters either, with an often critical and independent attitude to New Labour.
