[edit] History

Hampden Academy was founded in 1803 as a private school and before that was a Theological Seminary. Currently, it serves as a public school that educates students from Hampden, Winterport, and Newburgh. Founded in 1803, the original Hampden Academy building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Also noteworthy is the front lawn of the academy was the site of the Battle of Hampden during the War of 1812, and the bodies of two soldiers were allegedly never found and rumored to still be deep beneath the earth on the school grounds.

[edit] Misson Statement
