Hammy is a fictional hyperactive squirrel who appears in the Over the Hedge comic strip and film.
[edit] Characteristics
Besides RJ and Verne, Hammy is the only character to appear in both the comic strip and the film. "Hammy" was his original name, until the name "Sammy" came up after Hammy was killed off by the creators. However, he retains the name "Hammy" in DreamWorks SKG's feature film and his name was restored as "Hammy" in the comic strip around the time of promotion of the movie.
Hammy is similar to Twitchy, another hyperactive squirrel in The Weinstein Company's Hoodwinked!. Although the film Hoodwinked! was released before the film of Over the Hedge was, Hammy was in the Over the Hedge comic strip much earlier. Both Hammy and Twitchy save the day by drinking a caffeinated beverage (Twitchy drinks coffee and Hammy drinks a soft drink called Mach6).
