Hammers of Misfortune is a Progressive metal band from San Francisco, California. Their sound incorporates various elements of folk metal, doom metal and power metal. It's the main project of John Cobbett, also guitarist of Ludicra. The original lineup consisted of members of L7, GWAR, Malefice (Washington D.C.), Slough Feg and the aforementioned Ludicra.

Previously known as Unholy Cadaver, John Cobbett changed the name to Hammers of Misfortune for their 2001 release The Bastard (on Tumult Records). This album received many positive reviews in the metal community.
In 2003 the band signed a deal with CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC, releasing their second album The August Engine by the end of the same year. [1]
Mike Scalzi left the band after their latest release, The Locust Years. He is focusing on his band, Slough Feg.
