Hammerfest, in Vernor Vinge's book A Deepness in the Sky, is the Emergent facility in the OnOff solar system.

It is build upon the second largest object in the system (after the planet Arachnia), a massive 2km wide diamond[1], called "L1". This is because it is located at the first Lagrange Point of the OnOff-Arachnia gravity field. Hammerfest is used mainly by the Emergents for activities involving the Focused. Under it, but still part of the Hammerfest complex, the Emergents (actually Qiwi Lin Lisolet's, along with her Focused father Ali Lin, both Qeng Ho) built "North Paw", the private residence of Tomas Nau, a place that could be qualified as a "wounder of the galaxy". Actually, much greater things can be done in the Beyond or in the Transcend, but it is undoubtly the best that could be made in the Slow Zone. It is the greatest (not the largest though) micro-gravity bonsai-parc with a fully autonomous ecosystem (or Ecosphere, but much more complex).
