[edit] Radio Segments[1]
[edit] Blast from the Past
Every Wednesday, a pre-recorded phone prank is played. Hamish & Andy, with the help of their Panel Operator, Giggling Ben, dial a mobile phone number at random and their job is to convince them that they are someone from their past. Originally, the challenge was simply to keep the other person on the line as long as possible, and the record was held by Hamish at an impressive 4 minutes and 4 seconds. The segment now makes no mention of call time, and instead a challenge is typically added where the caller has to use a specific topic or request in their conservation with their "old buddy". Also noteworthy is the opening jingle which plays at the beginning of this segment because it is sung by 'Mika.' To date, only two people have recognized the call as a radio prank, although some others are suspected to have played along.
[edit] Fred Basset
At the end of the show on Friday, Hamish, much to the disdain of Andy, reads a cartoon of a dog, Fred Basset (not to be confused with The People's Greyhound) and his adventures. Andy has tried many different ways to prevent this being read, including playing with his phone's ring-tones, interrupting with his comments, blackmailing, or bribing him, Andy even once had brought in Hamish's mum into the studio and begged him not to read Fred Basset, and on another occasion rang up his girlfriend Anna and threatened a sex-ban, but he ignored them both and continued. He has also retaliated by reading a different comic: Snake Tales. Towards the end of 2007, Andy's efforts increased to stop Hamish reading the comic, notable efforts included Hamish having to eat Chilli and also making him run on a treadmill only a week after him having run a 41km marathon. On a rare occasion, Andy would help Hamish read a panel, such as the time they were strapped together as conjoined twins. Panels have also been read out by UK comedian Ross Noble, a self confessed Bassett fanatic who also voiced the dog.
[edit] Tell Him He's Dreamin'!
Every Thursday, Hamish & Andy take it in turns to call up someone from a trading post ad (hand picked by the other person) and try and work out what item is being sold by asking them 5 questions. After the fifth question is asked and answered, a bell rings and Hamish or Andy (whoever's turn it is) must guess what the item being sold is immediately. Hamish has guessed correctly on one occasion, it was a dressmakers dummy, and Andy won on May 22, 2008 with the item being a metal detector. To date, one person has guessed the callers as Hamish and Andy. This segment is pre-recorded.
[edit] Get Us an Autograph!
This pre-recorded segment is on any day of the week where Hamish and Andy get their humble country boy, Brad Blanks to get an interview with celebrities in New York on the red carpet and he attempts to get autographs. So far, Brad's only autograph was with Lindsay Lohan in which Hamish and Andy challenged him to get his man-boobs signed, and if he was successful, he would receive $1000. Lohan actually gave the signature under the condition that half the money would go to charity. [2]
[edit] Trivial Claims Court
A listener will call in with a minor matter that needs to be answered. One example is whether penguins have knees. Other callers call in with their response to the trivial matter and after a certain amount of calls, usually 12 to simulate a courtroom, they will find the answer by smsing 'The Question Guy' and answer the trivial claim.
[edit] Race to find celebrities
On occasions Hamish and Andy battle against each other to find famous celebrities for different purposes. Two of the most popular searches were to find:
- A Celebrity Endorsement for their Greyhound, Fred Basset. The two celebrities were Paris Hilton and John Travolta. But by the end of the competition, Hamish gave up on finding Paris Hilton, and instead found Mike Whitney.
- Two famous celebrities whom two listeners had a crush on when they were younger. The celebrities were Taylor Hanson and Jennie Garth. Titled Celebrity Crush Hunt, Hamish and Andy were still neck and neck in finding their celebrities but on the 24th of May 2007, Hamish won the competition by finding Taylor Hanson.
- A segment called "Where the bloody hell are..they..now?" was a race between Hamish and Andy to find Steve Erkell and Jaleel White.
[edit] Radio PA System
A segment in which Hamish and Andy allow listeners to call the station and announce any public announcements. Often listeners announce reminders to family or friends such as "Don't forget to pick Mary up from school". Listeners have also called in to cancel dates, break up with partners and merely to be on the show.
[edit] Caravan of Courage
On Wednesday October 3, 2007, Hamish and Andy set out on their Caravan of Courage trip, to visit as many country towns as possible during their journey from Perth to Brisbane, to broadcast their radio show from wherever they were at 4PM AEST each day.
The conclusion of their trip was broadcast on Rove on October 14 from a caravan park in Brisbane. Accompanying them on their 'Hug of Australia' is the 'Wagon of Will-power', 'Triton of Triumph' and the 'Magna of Mis-adventure'. In South Australia they were joined by two more cars - a Ute and the Panel Van of Persistence, which broke down near Brisbane. Also on the Benalla show Gav proposes to Sarah, she said yes- (an engagement in the Panel-van)
Photos of each day's events can be found at their website. They went salt lake surfing, seen a double headed pig, been prospecting, visiting a haunted church, seeing a car graveyard, waterskiid in an irrigation channel and been forced to eat $25 worth of fruit at a fruitfly inspection point.

[edit] The Peoples' Chip
A national phenomenon following the creation of Australia's most wanted chip seasoning which; after a massive community response - was selected to be 'Gravy'. This entire chapter of Australia's history was started by a simple question to the Australian listeners, asking if "Light'n'Tangy" the flavouring was named before it was created - or this incredible flavour was spliced together and a suitable name to match. After a call to the station hotline from 'The Smith's Snackfood Company' Hamish and Andy were informed that the possibility of creating a customized potato chip was entirely possible - erupting an unforeseeable segment for weeks to follow.
Hamish and Andy then proposed to the people to offer up suggestions for the best chip flavour they would like created. Proceeding with thousands upon thousands of requests for flavours and tastes both wild and creative.
[edit] Flavours such as:
'The taste of victory'
'Pineapple and lime'
'Hot Chip flavour'
'Peanut'
'Tomato Sauce'
'Solo flavour'
'Tuna'
'Doughnut'
'Avocado'
'Strawberries and cream'
'Pizza'
'Hamburgers - ranging from many fast food chain varieties'
'Confectionary - Sweet and savoury flavours'
and many more.
[edit] The Lot
The wide range of flavours made Hamish believe that it could be possible to mix all the flavours together and have a chip referred to as 'The Lot'. Andy's constant disagreement forced him to bring a selection of the most popular flavours together and blend them together to prove to Hamish it was a terrible idea. After consumption this was undeniably proved by Hamish's sick implusive reaction.
[edit] The Top Six
A selection of six flavours were selected by popular demand to make the shortlist for the online poll which featured:
'Pork Dumpling'
'Gravy'
'Kebab (or Souvlaki)'
'Beer'
'Chocolate'
'Fruit Salad'
After an unprecedented amount of response with over 40,000 votes it was declared 'Gravy' to be the undeniable winner and the flavour to be created.
[edit] The Final Three Flavours
With glory close at hand on Friday 16th May 2008 - Hamish and Andy had to try three flavours of the gravy chip created by The Smith's Snackfood Company and select one for production. It was also found out that only 500 50gram bags of the flavour would be created in the initial run of the product - for the promotional purposes of the show.
The three flavours brought to Hamish and Andy were:
"The Chip Shop" - An original style gravy based on the flavour of hot chips from your local takeaway venue.
"Mick Lee's Roast Beef" - Andy's dad's family famous beef gravy flavour - strong flavouring described as a definite "gravy punch".
"Moosies Gourmet" - Hamish's granma's gourment style of gravy with onion and vegetable flavouring mixed in with the gravy.
After much preparation and national excitement - it was decided upon that "Mick Lee's Roast Beef' would be the chip flavour to be produced for the show - and a definite 2 week date set on the final product being completed and shipped.
495 packets were made, with 99 packets delivered to each state. Some fans slept out over night to obtain the chips with a few fans even selling theirs on Ebay. On the same day after an astounding vote, Smiths Crisps announced they were going to make 60,000 more packets.
