Hamilton Society
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hamilton Society is a student group at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). It was set up in 2004 to cater for the activities of students not already covered by other clubs or societies at RCSI.
The brainchild of Leslie Hannon, the Society was co-founded by Alice Proctor, Conor Malone, Brian Mc Ardle and Clodagh Quinn. Professor CiarĂ¡n O'Boyle, Professor of Psychology and Vice-Dean at RCSI, was elected as the first president.
Named after Sir William Rowan Hamilton, arguably Ireland's greatest mathematician, the Society was developed to provide outlets for students interested in art, languages, history and the physical sciences.
Notable sponsors include Seamus Heaney and Elmore Leonard.
