Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani (born 1959) is a member of the royal family of Qatar and currently the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister.

He has been the Minister of Foreign Affairs since 1992. He is a cousin of the current emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and his father and predecessor, Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, who appointed him; he was retained in his post when the current emir came to power in a coup in 1995. He played an important role in the overthrow of Khalifa bin Hamad in 1995 and is close to Hamad bin Khalifa.[citation needed]

On April 3, 2007, he was appointed as Prime Minister following the resignation of Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, while continuing to serve as Foreign Minister.[1]

He has been reported to have strong connections with the US government, especially Vice-President Dick Cheney and a difficult relationship with Sheikha Moza, the emir's influential second wife. He is the second wealthiest man in Qatar and has stakes in many strong businesses (Qatar Airways, car sales, banks...).[citation needed]
