User talk:Hal.Lee-McWhorter

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, welcome to my Wikipedia page. I am a scientist by trade and interested in acquiring and creating knowledge. Wikipedia is a very interesting idea and I hope to make a few useful contributions to it.

In the December 15, 2005 issue of the scientific journal "Nature", the joural reported the results of an investigation to study the accuracy of 42 scientific entries in Wikipedia and Britannica. Using a peer-review process carried out by the experts in the respective fields of study, they found 4 errors in Wikipedia and 3 in Britannica. This gives strong credential to the process to which Wikipedia has been created. I believe Wikipedia can grow beyond the Britannica because of its potential to have more extensive and in-depth coverage (not restricted by the length or the number of links and footnotes) of any topic and the free access to it where there is internet connection.

I hope you enjoy the knowledge in Wikipedia and make your contribution to it!

[edit] Main vs User space

Hey Hal, the confusion was certainly understandable and is quite common really. As you may have noticed, the "main space" articles (say, "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Lee_McWhorter") are for the official, encyclopedic entries only, describing notable concepts and things (the aforementioned article might begin with "Hal Lee McWhorter (19XX-) is a leading scientist in the field of..."). On the other hand, the "user space" pages (such your "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Hal.Lee-McWhorter") are personal pages that can be used for things of a personal nature, such as the comments on your page. And, just about every page on Wikipedia has a talk page like this one, so feel free to make comments in every one that sparks your curiosity or question.

Here are some tips that might be useful:
