Forerunners?

has anyone noticed that in the game, the forerunners, thoguh not specifically described, seem to have been some type of human race? got info from listening to the monitor in halo 1, and reading halo: the flood and halo:ghosts of onyx. tidbits of dialogue and documents seem to imply tht the forrunners may have been human Darthblaze99 14:07, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

The discussion page is only for topics pertaining to the article itself, not the game. If you want to speculate, go find a relevant message board. Amalga —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 01:35, August 27, 2007 (UTC).

i was hoping sm1 would know if they have released any info on if the forerunners will make an appearence in halo 3. didnt make that clear. sry. Darthblaze99 14:00, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
In regards to information about the storyline, Bungie's been pretty mum about the in-depth details. Whether or not the Forerunners will appear in Halo 3 is not a storyline detail they'd want to reveal before the game comes out, so no. No information has been released. Amalga 04:48, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
According to the Halo ARG "Iris", the Forerunners were not human. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.167.2.89 (talk) 02:54, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

and where did u get that information? a link would be nice. cuz i played the iris game and it said nothing about being or not being human Darthblaze99 14:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Gameplay revisions

Consider revisign the Gameplay section, most of it seems extremely useless to the article, much of the information if very obvious and present in almost any game.

I Agree, the grammar and puncuation is poor. There are uneccessary commas all over the place.

It also it states that the game follows The Master Chief, with no mention of the Arbiter.

This is because the game is through the eyes of the Chief, while the Arrviter is only helpful occasionally and is the co-op character. This is why they state that. Longshotz 18:44, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

It also contains opinion - when mentioning the Multiplayer element of the game "... and is the primary reason for the series' enormous success." The games Halo:CE and Halo 2 were hugely successful despite the multiplayer element.

English is also poor eg when describing it as a first person shooter it states that the game "Largely builds off of previous renditions of the franchise..." Surely this should read "Largely builds on.." or "Largely builds upon..."

That is just a few examples.

Just Wondering

You do realize that Truth isn't the last Prophet, right?

yeah but hes the one in power right now, so we don't really care about the rest of his race.157.174.221.167 20:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually, this might be true, because when you start The Great Journey level, it is mentioned that the Council was murdered, and all the Prophets were in there. Longshotz 18:46, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

True, but it matters on what you define as 'the prophets'. yes, theres more prophets or people that look like him. But the proftet of truth's kind may not be called prophets, and might be called somethiung different.--leemyster 13:29, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Campain Choice

There is a rumor going around Halo 3 forums that you can choose who you can play as, Meaning you either play as the Arbiter or the Master Chief, your choice. Link to rumor

At this stage there is no confirmation. When Bungie says whether the Arbiter is playable or not we can add it, until then there's no need to mention it. I personally think he will be available as a coop character, but that's just my opinion and it shouldn't be added to the article (my opinion that is). James086Talk | Email 09:11, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Huh. Looks like the latest issue of EGM says that the Arbiter is playable in Halo 3's campaign. Whaddya know. Peptuck 16:59, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Since I am at work and cant get onto the EGM page can you tell me what date they are putting it on the shelves?Xenocide321 19:14, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't think its for sure but since the arbiter is playing along side the Master Cheif vertially the entire game there would be no purpose in having 2 different campain's and the fact that the arbiter is a co-op player might enhance this thought. Im not posative just a guess.

Campain Choice has been confirmed Bungie news

No it hasn't. However, the Arbiter is available in co-op. Also, your link is broken.--TyGuy92 02:50, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Extra grenade?

In the E3 2007 trailer; at 0:50 (50 seconds) there is a 1st person view of MC killing a brute with a battle rifle and if you look at his grenades he has 4 types. It's not equipment (like a shield drainer or bubble shield) because that is displayed under the grenades. Is it known what it is or hasn't Bungie said anything? Currenty it's unknown... Hackers found an Agility powerup or piece of equipment, in the beta code, and its speculated that this is it. The Walkin Dude 15:05, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Ok thanks, and at the moment that screenshot needs to be put in an article or it will be deleted (see WP:FU), sorry to be such a copyright-nut. Talk | Email 01:58, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

In the next months EGM mag there is a ton of new tHalo 3 info, the 4th grenade is the Flare, a smoke grenade of sorts. There are more new weapons shown too! Gravity Hammer - a shockwave-generating device that's used for close-range attacks and vehicle disruptions. The Mauler - a dual-wield shotgun.valo_sweet_666

The Flare is a new piece of equipment, similar to the Portable Grav Lift, Power Drainer, and Bubble Shield available in the multiplayer beta. Even in EGM, the fourth grenade remains more of a rumor than anything. "We saw hints of a fourth grenade type, though it never actually appeared in action. Bungie won't give any details on this possible addition--or whether it will even be included in the final game." Brent Butler contribstalk 16:52, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

ONLINE CO-OP

Following reports earlier in the month that online co-operative gameplay was on the verge of not making it in Halo 3, Bungie has today confirmed that the four player Online Co-Op is now confirmed! Valo sweet 666 04:46, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

They've announced that Player One will play as Master Chief. Player Two will be the Arbiter. Players Three and Four will be elite soldiers. All three will have identical abilities, aside from the starting weapon which will be carbines for the elites instead of the battle rifle which Master Chief will use. Here are some details about those characters directly from Bungie.net:

PLAYER 3 (Sangheili)

Name: N’tho ‘Sraom Affiliation: Fleet of Retribution/Special Warfare Group/Special Operations History: N’tho ‘Sraom is the youngest member of his Special Operations unit and is one of a growing number of human sympathizers amongst the Sangheili youth. He is a fairly typical young male adult Sangheili—he began compulsory military service at the end of adolescence, and remains unmarried with no close, non-familial relationships outside of his martial order. N’tho Sraom refused to stand idly by while the Prophets replaced Sangheili units with Jiralhanae packs, and now bears deep resentment toward those Sangheili politicians who landed his kind in their current predicament.

Although N’tho ‘Sraom’s romanticized nationalism is emblematic of all Sangheili, he has developed a healthy respect for humanity—not for their physical abilities or martial prowess, but for their audacity and resolve.

PLAYER 4 (Sangheili)

Name: Usze ‘Taham Affiliation: Fleet of Retribution/Special Warfare Group/Fleet Security History: Although Usze ‘Taham was born into a respected merchant family he was fathered by Toha ‘Sumai—one of the preeminent swordfighters of this age. Usze graduated with honors from the top War College in the Iruiru region of Yermo, Sanghelios (a distinction he shares with Rtas 'Vadum). Shortly after receiving his first post within the Covenant Navy he was offered a place on the Prophets’ Honor Guard but he declined citing “lack of practical experience”. In truth, he had no desire to be part of a largely ceremonial unit, and at the end of his third combat tour, Usze ‘Taham again refused the post—even though his superiors warned him such behavior could be misinterpreted as apostasy.

Since that time Usze has evaded countless punitive actions, at least two assassination attempts, and served with distinction for two additional tours before the Schism. Following the dissolution of the Covenant, he was approached by the Ascetics to become one of their liaisons within the Navy. Hammet1982 21:21, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

More magazine tidbits (Edge 179)

Over today, I'll be adding a few new tidbits about Halo 3 to the article from the latest Edge magazine in the UK. I'll also be adding full cites to bits I add as well, just to make it proper. Please don't worry about this being a leak, or false information. I have the magazine right in front of me, and assuming EDGE themselves didn't get it wrong, it is all correct.

One tidbit that i've just added; there are 53,595 pieces of audio in Halo 3, of which 39,368 are of NPC dialogue. RC Master 14:16, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Million Preorders

the news hitting the intertubes today is that there have already been one million copies sold, over a month before release. is this notable enough to put in the article? is it a record of any kind? -anon

I think so, a mention in the lead section should do saying it's one of the most anticipated games with more than 1 million copies pre-ordered, with a source of course. Speaking of which, I had to go searching to pre-order my legendary edition, they're sold out at so many places now. I had to drive ~30km to find a store that wasn't sold out! (it's a long way considering how many stores there are near me). James086Talk | Email 23:36, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I only preordered the cheapest version of the game... saving the bigs bucks for the GTA4 special edition... Anyway, According to the article now this is or is not a new record for preorders. Someone added a new source showing higher preorders for halo 2. I think it has something to do with how quickly they got to 1 million preorders... I'll be looking for a source, and I'm betting I'll be able to find a source that states 2 Million or more pre-orders for this game by the time the launch finally hits. -anon

Legendary Edition image

I found a free image of the legendary edition (Image:Halo Legendary Helmet.jpg) though I'm not sure where to add it to the article, I think that the "Different versions" section would have too much white space if I were to add it there. Any suggestions, or just go ahead if you have a good idea. James086Talk | Email 03:48, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Note

It states in weapons that you cannot hide a seconday weapon, however the energy sword in the beta would deactivate after being switched, allowing you to hide it. 74.245.38.202 16:42, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

However, it still visibly appeared on the players leg. So its not invisible when you switch like it was in previous games. Thats the point of the sentence in the article. RC Master 09:54, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Halo 3 Epsilon and new flame weapons

I recommend you mention the halo 3 epsilon that is currently active. Bungie has yet to confirm this epsilon but many trustworthy websites have written about it and I have personally seen someone playing the halo 3 epsilon. Links to some websites: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/812/812230p1.html http://kotaku.com/gaming/soon/so-whats-halo-3-epsilon-288442.php http://kotaku.com/gaming/and-nothing-but-the-truth/the-truth-behind-halo-3-epsilon-288565.php http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EElyluyuuASXUMvxWV.php

Regarding the flamethrower and firebomb, these were confirmed by IGN and included an interview with a Bungie employee. "O'Connor confirmed that the gadget (bubble shield) will provide safe haven from fire."It will wash over the shield. It will actually burn on the surface of the shield."

The Epsilon is just another stage of internal testing. As the article stands theres no real place for it. However, if there was a "development" section, it could be mentioned there. Oh, and firebomb and flamethrower have been added now. RC Master 09:56, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

More info on Meta-Game scoring

I don't remember where I read it (new EGM I think, but I don't have a copy) but they have released how the meta-game scoring will go. It will be based on things like head-shots, using skulls (which have negative effects), killing mutliple enemies at once, etc. It will essentially work like the stat baords in multiplayer games, but with a point value associated with the different stats and medals as well as some Single-Player only things like using skulls. If anyone has the data on this, I think it would be nice to add to the info for the meta-game since the wording right now is a little weak.157.174.221.168 15:21, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes. This is one of the things mentioned in Edge 179 that I meant to update the article with. I don't know about the "killing multiple enemies at once" one, but there are still things that could be added. I'll have a look... RC Master 14:24, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Done: Well mostly. I reworded most of it, and added info about headshots and speed of progression. Also noting the competitive aspect it introduces to co-op. Oh, plus a quote! RC Master 15:54, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Post-release cleanup and organization

(Just want to get this out of the way) Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 are both featured articles, so ideally I would like this to be as well. Obviously immediately after it's released there won't be enough critical reception (and face it, we'll all be too busy playing the damn game), however I would like to suggest that shortly before the release we shunt a copy of this page to a subpage, perhaps /prerelease or whatever; that way, we can trash the main page and reorganize it, while still having a copy in the back (to grab details about development, rumors and prerelease info that will be extremely helpful upon release.) Anyone have any objections to this/improvements? David Fuchs (talk) 22:58, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I think that would be an excellent way to help develop and refine the article. And I completely agree with you on getting this to FA since CE and 2 are FAs. It'll take time, but all good things do. Cliff smith 23:23, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
I also agree, I was wondering myself what we should do with the current article but that sounds like an excellent idea. James086Talk | Email 23:49, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. Upon release, it will need a significant rewrite. Because a lot of the stuff is listed chronologically and with lots of "will introduce" "was revealed on" etc. Putting a copy of the article on a subpage does seem like a good reference point for developing an FA worthy article. We'll have to decide exactly what needs to be said in regards to things that are covered in the article now, but aren't covered in counter-part on Halo and Halo 2 pages. Because thinks like the current "technology" or "features" (saved films) section, aren't covered at all in many other game articles. But, perhaps they should be?
The article as it stands, is still pretty good I would say. RC Master 14:11, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, there is nothing about the technology behind the games in the other articles, but also in terms of release marketing and reception- that killed me when I had to go digging for it at FAC. David Fuchs (talk) 15:01, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Um, whats FAC? RC Master 15:11, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
WP:FAC = Featured article candidates, but it's often referred to as the process of "putting an article through FAC" as in nominating and responding to the discussion. James086Talk | Email 23:46, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Ah, thought it might be. Just had to check. Thanks RC Master 12:48, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Vague, POV wording here

I don't like how the following passage was worded. No citation is given and we are not even told which 2 weapons the author found to be the only useful ones in the original Halo. For one, I used every weapon in Halo, and in multi-player I used the Sniper-Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun frequently like many players. Since this ungrounded bias reads like a POV sales pitch for the new game, I'd like to have this sentence rewritten please:

The idea of "balance" (at least in multiplayer) is that each specific weapon or piece of equipment has specific areas where it is most useful, and others where it falls far short. No matter what combination of weapons a player chooses (players are 'famously limited only two choices of weapons in Halo), there will be situations in which they have an advantage, and others in which they have a disadvantage. The result is that there is no one weapon/vehicle that is overwhelmingly the best overall choice for whatever type of situation they may encounter. --Charizardpal 20:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I wrote that. I was trying to explain the bit about "the balance of weapons..has been altered." Perhaps it seems a little out of context now. It orgininally did say at the end "(such as the M6D in the first Halo)" however someonce decided that wasn't needed and removed it. It still holds true, I feel. If you didn't know what was coming. You'd choose an M6D and the most powerful weapon you could find.
Now, probably, it does need a rewrite. Though I don't know what could be said. RC Master 13:13, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
"Only two weapons at any one time" might fit better? James086Talk | Email 23:40, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

New Toy

Speaking of new toys, apparantly Wired magazine confirms a new weapon. Wasn't sure where to post this, but the URL is here...

http://www.wired.com/gaming/virtualworlds/magazine/15-09/ff_halo?currentPage=4

And apparantly describes another turret-type weapon that's covenant based called the Plasma Turret. Does someone want to put this where it needs to go?

-Uwasa

This is simply a redesign of the existing portable plasma turret. i.e. the one without the shield on the front. Whats new is that it is detachable like the human turret, and the weapon looks more impressive to reflect its powerful nature. 157.174.221.167 19:35, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Just wanted to add that this turret can be seen in action in the HALO 3 videos form this years PAX. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.174.221.168 (talk) 20:47, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I was surfing the GameStop website, when I came accross a few more limited editions of another very cool, but some-what pointless Halo 3 extras. Im sure you all know about the SPARTAN and Elite controlers, and the Halo 3 wireless head-set. The 2 new items are the MadCatz Xbox 360 Halo 3 Faceplate/Skin Pack, and the SPNKr Missle cass. Yea that's right, a SPNKr missle cass (the missle ammo pick-ups from the games). From the picture, it looks like it can hold one controller and a wired-headset (or, maybe 2 controllers) and it looks like it has room for 5 CDs. The missle cass is only available online, so dont go to the store looking for one.

Female Voice

I know this feature has been confirmed by Bungie, but has anyone seen anything about when you ever hear it? Those that are familiar with Halo know that the characters voice is never really used in multi. Its just not very clear in the article why having a female voice option matters. The way its written sounds like you speak through character voices instead of just using the xbox live headset and may be misleading to those unfamiliar with the game.157.174.221.169 18:19, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Its there for when the player dies, you will hear a female scream istead of male. .Valo sweet 666 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I would have thought it would be the voice that says "double kill" or "flag taken" etc. That would make a more noticable difference that would probably be worth mentioning in a weekly update but then again I'm just speculating. James086Talk | Email 03:30, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

It is when you hear the player die in MultiPlayer. You will never hear it during the campaign, and it does not change the voice of the announcer.--Tyguy92 17:48, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

I think its the 'voice mask' that is going to be female or male. they did this because of the increasing amount of female gamers, so it wouldnt be sexist that the only voice mask you could get would be one of a male voice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leemyster (talkcontribs) 13:39, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

The female voice that bungie has added will be used when your character is meleed, in halo 2 your character would "grunt" so to speak. now, you can change that grunt to a shriek, it does not change your voice masking, the voice of the announcer, or any other game unrelated aspects, its simply an aesthetic change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.126.243.32 (talk) 02:14, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Bubble Shield Issue

Correct me if I'm worng but as I remember from the Beta, from within the bubble shield you can still fire outwards. If I'm completely wrong, just disregard this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 63.164.202.130 (talk) 13:08, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

No, you can't, it prevents fire both ways. When the beta was available I would approach a bubble and throw a grenade inside. It contains the explosion and pretty much guarantees a kill if there's anyone inside it. James086Talk | Email 13:36, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
The new stationary shield has a slit you can fire through though. I believe it was confirmed in the EGM issue, but I could be wrong.157.174.221.169 19:30, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
