[edit] Speedy
I don't see this article as a speedy. Improvements have been made. --Stormbay 22:41, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've done some research and this article does not appear to be a speedy. It compares favorably with any number of band articles that are alive and well on Wikipedia. Can it be improved? Of course; and an editor is also actively working on it. --Stormbay 22:53, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notability
I recently added a {{db-band}} tag to the page because I was unconvinced that the band fully satisifies any of the notability criteria at WP:MUSIC. These are as follows:
- It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable.1
- This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, and television documentaries except for the following:
- Media reprints of press releases, other publications where the musician/ensemble talks about themselves, and advertising for the musician/ensemble.
- Works comprising merely trivial coverage, such as newspaper articles that simply report performance dates or the publications of contact and booking details in directories.
- An article in a school or university newspaper (or similar) would generally be considered trivial but should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, and television documentaries except for the following:
- Has had a charted hit on any national music chart.
- Has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country.
- Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country, reported in reliable sources.
- Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable).
- Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such.
- Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability.
- Has won a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury or Grammis award.
- Has won or placed in a major music competition.
- Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that page.)
- Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.
- Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast on a national radio or TV network.
Because of this, I don't believe that the current article should be included in Wikipedia. But I am willing to accept that some of my objections may be tenuous:
- This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, and television documentaries.
This is a broad point. I am unsure to what extent the article at citypages.com constitutes a published article.
- Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable).
I am unsure to what extent either Princess, East Side Digital, Pulse, Catlick or Minnesota Public Radio would be considered notable labels.
Bear in mind that the guidelines state that only one notability criterion needs to be satisfied, and pending this there should be no problem with the article. Senordingdong 18:25, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- I thought that the group had an all around notability including the use of songs on two well known Tv shows and an active stage career. (I also thought that James Diers had potential as a credible article; the guy seems quite talented). Truth be known though, I do feel that run of the mill performance articles are given too much space in wiki. This was my attempt to treat them all equally, which prompted the removal of the speedy. Bottom line; put it back if you wish. I'll keep out of it. --Stormbay 22:20, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
