Description

The w:Hall of Clestrain, w:Mainland, Orkney. John Rae's birthplace is as neglected as his reputation. Ken McGoogan's excellent biography Fatal Passage describes how his adoption of w:Inuit skills, and his trust in their report of the fate of the Franklin expedition, lead to his lack of recognition by Victorian society.
