Halwara Air Base is located near the town of Halwara in Punjab, India.
[edit] History
Built and incepted in 1950, Halwara Air Base was one of the first air bases to be built after India's independence from the British Raj.
[edit] International Passenger and Cargo Airport
The Government of India has agreed in principle to establish Halwara Airport into an international passenger and cargo airport. The Punjab State Government is in the process of acquiring land required to extend the airfield and build a passenger terminal building. A perishable cargo centre complex is also planned.
On April 10, 2007 the plan was dropped by the AAI and was moved to the Sahnewal Airport[citation needed].
