Hallam is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Hallam, on the Pakenham railway line. It is in Metcard Zone 2.
Hallam station is unmanned.
[edit] Location
The station is located at the western end of the Hallam South Road (formerly Hallam Road) level crossing.
[edit] Facilities
The station consists of two side platforms. Both platforms contain small shelters. A large Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 1, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A small Metcard machine is located at the entrance to platform 2.
Both platforms can be accessed via Hallam South Road.
Hallam station is receiving upgrades due to the amount of passenger traffic it gets. New pedestrian lights have been installed at the railway crossing to help combat pedestrians crossing the notoriously busy Hallam South Road, and also signalled for when trains are arriving. It was also announced in May 2007 that the car park will be upgraded with 200 new spaces added.
[edit] History
Hallam station originally opened on 1 December 1880 as Hallam's Road. It was later renamed to Hallam in 1904.
