[edit] Career
Halid Musić started his career in 1980. He and his group "sijelo", whose members were Halid, the sargija player, Mejra the vocal back up and two violin players. Around 1989 or 1990 they released an album, which was a major hit; so big a hit that the entire country was playing the album. He is credited with bringing this kind of music into the mainstream.
[edit] The bridge incident
In 1991, Halid found a homeless man under a bridge. He asked him how he ended up there and asked him why he did not take the house that some people offered him, he complained that the house did not have windows or a roof, but Halid argued it still would be better than a bridge. He also brought him a bottle of rakija. He asked him about the current political situation, the homeless man responded that it was Tito's fault for this kind of life, in that everyone lived together Bosnian, Serbians and Croatians. Halid responded by saying that, they can't mentions Tito's name anymore, while saying that he looked around, there were KOS operatives around places. Then his violin player and Halid with his sargija proceeded to play his song about a bridge and the homeless man who lives under it. The songs itself uses a metaphor for the bridge and homeless man. It was all recorded by the Izvori crew.
[edit] Peace protest
In 1992, just before the war, Halid was asked to perform on the peace protests in Sarajevo, which were to show that Bosnia did not want war. He performed for thousands of people with his song about Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian living together in peace.
