Half Acre Beer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Half Acre Beer Company was started in 2006 by Gabriel Magliaro. It is a Chicago-based beer business with its office located in Chicago's meat packing district. The recipes for the beers are developed in Chicago and the beer is then brewed at Sand Creek Brewery in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. It is not uncommon for beer companies to contract out their brewing. In fact, about 30 percent of Sand Creek's business is from contract brewing. [1] Half Acre hopes to eventually brew their beer directly in Chicago to further develop their company mission.
Half Acre's first beer debuted the week of August 13th 2006 and is a lager. Half Acre's distributor is Chicago Beverage Systems. [2]
The lager's taste is described as hoppy (for a lager), with a light, airy body and clean finish. It also has a subtle, unusual citrusy-sweet note that tastes (and smells) of oranges. Despite the citrus flavor, Magliaro has gone on record stating the only thing in his beer is water, yeast and “lots and lots” of German malt and Czech Saaz hops. [3].
