On July 13, 2006, William Avalos and Julio Perez were fatally shot while attending a memorial service near 2038 S. Garth Ave. for 16-year old Anna Interiano. Anna Interiano was fatally shot July 11, 2006 while walking from Hamilton High School to visit a few friends near the 8900 block of Cadillac Avenue. Interiano was then taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in critical condition, dying only a few hours later. Though there were reports of her being a gang member "Wannabe", her family says that she was an innocent victim. Her brother, Christian Espinoza Martinez, says that his sister told a school police officer that someone was out in the school premises flagging students with guns. He then added that his sister told the police officer several times. The Officer told Anna he would take care of it but 20 minutes later, she was shot dead. The only connection of these two shootings were the proximity to the location and the fact that the men had attended her memorial service. William Avalos and Julio Perez were taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center were they were pronounced dead. Both of the men were near there 20's. The families of the deceased appeared on television on local news channels begging and urging anyone with information to come forward and help them catch the murderers. "It is still unclear whether the shootings were by the same group of people but the likelihood of that is fairly high" says William Avalos younger sister.

The crime in Los Angeles has risen a bit higher and the rate of students dropping out of High School is quite high.
