[edit] Sorry for the "testing" on peoples posts

First off I'm new to Wikipedia and this is the only way I could find to send you a message. Any way it seemes while I was gitting a drink a few minutes ago my little brother thought it would be funny to play with other peoples work, I just want to apologies to you and thank you for fixing his mischef. Message to me from you: Thanks for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has now been removed. Please use Wikipedia:Sandbox for any other tests you want to do, since testing material in articles will normally be removed quickly. Please see the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. Hadal 08:43, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] From 65.73.0.137

I am very sorry for deleting those images on Ivan V and Paul I. I didn't know what I was doing. It was like vandalism. I was driven by madness that minor Russian rulers are not special enough to have images, but Ivan V is of importance because he was joint czar with Peter the Great, and Paul I was known for his tyrannical actions. Please accept my apologies.

[edit] 203.147.0.42

Hello Hadal, this I.P. address is the IP address that the internetcafe I use for my contributions uses. I am living in Bangkok Thailand and am a fairly heavy contributor to the Dutch wikipedia. Someone blocked the IP address before, which means I cannot do anything anymore. I understand your anger at somebody spamming, but it ain't me whom is doing this spamming. If you block said IP address though, I cannot log in anymore nor contribute. Waerth 08:19, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Sometimes I forget to login, I try to make a point of it though (to log in). I am on almost twice a day and always look around me, there was a worse spamattack a few months ago. I haven't found any enterprising Thai yet. Neither positively (contributing to TH wiki), nor negatively. The Chinese owner is sometimes active on the ZH wiki after I showed it to him! [edit] 65.96.165.187

Firstly, I am fairly new to editing wikipedia so I may be doing something wrong. I am mainly curious as to why you undid my changes on the page for 'Strowger'? All the four disambiguations point to the same single Strowger, i.e. Almond Brown Strowger, who played a major role / founded the Automatic Electric Company which made the first (automatic) telephone exchanges. Thanks!

[edit] 03webberg

I am the person who you accused of vandalism, 03webberg. I have email Hadal with my response. Check your email Hadal. Thanks, GW (posted on my userpage by User:03webberg)

Blanking articles is vandalism, no matter how "boring" the articles are. This is not reasonable behaviour, nor is it reasonable to expect me to tolerate it; just because the articles have been restored doesn't mean you've free license to vandalise. If you think blanking articles is fun, I suggest you find somewhere else to play.
Additionally, this statement from your email is rather damning:
"If you 'block' me, I shall set up an account under another name and deliberately vandalise the site."
I should block you just for saying so, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're just full of hot air. -- Hadal 02:10, 16 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Editing a redirect page

While patrolling RC I came across a double-redirect. I've not worked with redirects before, so I read Redirect, but didn't see what I was looking for. I'm hoping you can help me. U.S. Foreign Policy redirects to US foreign policy, which unsuccessfully tries to redirect to Foreign relations of the United States. I thought the unsuccessful redirect may have been caused by the lack of a space between #REDIRECT and the page name. I added a space and it still didn't work. Maybe double-redirects simply aren't allowed. If that is the case, then it should be easy to fix. Simply redirect the capitalized version to the final page to begin with. Here's the catch - I don't know how to edit a redirect page. I can't click "Edit this page" because I'm redirected away from the page automatically. How do you go about editing a redirect page? Thank you. SWAdair | Talk 08:50, 5 May 2004 (UTC)

I can help (good thing I never bothered taking this page off my watchlist). First of all, no, double redirects don't work, so it's not a bug (or if so, it's documented *somewhere*). Now, on to the more important question: how do you edit a redirect page? Well, there are at least three options that I know of:
  1. You know where it says (redirected from [insert redirect name])? Click on that link.
  2. Or, along the left-hand side (for me, anyway) there are a bunch of links. One says "What links here" - if you click on that, it takes you to all the pages that link there, and you can click on the redirect pages' links without being redirected.
  3. It's also possible to enter the URL directly into your browser, in this case http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=U.S._Foreign_Policy&redirect=no
Hope that helps. Oh, and don't worry about that particular page anymore, it's fixed. And at least you didn't find a triple redirect (which I've seen!)... - Bulbaboy 21:26, 5 May 2004 (UTC)

[edit] American Quarter Horse

It would be appreciated if you would undo your revert of the American Quarter Horse to what it should be. If something is done, it's done for a reason. I realize that you thought you had a reason as well, but did you not bother to read the discussion page?

Changes don't necessarily happen because of random happenstance and whims. In one case, someone (myself) was making a change based on grammatical correctness or common usage and fully backed up by research,, and you, apparently, made a change based on a misguided 'belief' you have about enforcing a 'wikipedia' rule too literally which, for some odd reason, you haven't fully looked at all the finer nuances of.

Perhaps you could go to the 'Grand Canyon' page and redirect it to 'Grand canyon' and you could go to the 'George Washington' page and redirect it to 'George washington' and you could go to the 'Kentucky Derby' page and redirect it to 'Kentucky derby'?

I've replied to your unnecessarily caustic comments at User talk:199.35.17.23. -- Hadal 16:14, 8 May 2004 (UTC)

Caustic or not, upon my first arrival at the Quarter Horse page, I discovered two pages already in existence: American quarter horse and American Quarter Horse, where I found that American Quarter Horse had a redirect to American quarter horse. If that's acceptable, and by your reversion to that exact state, then by gosh, it must be, then clearly, it must be acceptable for me to assume that exactly the opposite is also acceptable, and even moreso, because at least it adheres to common usage. Since I'm new, and you're not, it would seem that the ball is in your court to make it pure in the sense of how you want things structured technically, while acknowledging the content related change.

Is it wrong for me to sound 'caustic' when I see a revert to a situation which contains the same technical errors that my edit created, and additionally, moving backwards in terms of acknowledging new information about writing about Quarter Horses, rather than moving forward, once armed with new information on the subject of Quarter Horses?

Replied again to your still rather caustic comments at User talk:199.35.17.23. -- Hadal 16:34, 8 May 2004 (UTC)

Ok, now I see that the page history is lost, which I didn't initially think of. At this point, I think it's pretty clear, that yes, I believe the page title should be changed, and it has been brought to your attention.

Yes, perhaps I was caustic. I'll admit that.

Okay, I'm glad that's been clarified. The article has now been moved as requested. Cheers, -- Hadal 17:10, 8 May 2004 (UTC)

Thanks.

[edit] Pratt & Whitney

Hi Hadal,

I would like the information from our P&W website about Mr. Pratt & Mr. Whitney added to Wikipedia. However it was removed because of copyright issues.

If I add information on the bottom of the P&W history web page (ie: "This information is not copyrighted and may be distributed freely") will you allow the information to be posted?

If not, is there anything else that needs to be done?

Best regards, David Stelly

First, who are these pratt and whitney and do they belong on the encyclopedia? -- Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 13:42, 2004 Jul 13 (UTC)
Well, I'm not here to judge, but they were the founders of a fairly important aeronautics company. Unless my memory is failing, the text in question is fair and encyclopedic. If not, there's always VfD. -- Hadal 13:54, 13 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hadal, is it forbidden to use infomation from a webpage, even if you point direcrtly to the source? Or did you edit my Fire Bomber page for some other resaon?

[edit] Well...

The image is actually a mag scan that has been widely distributed through the net, so it's probably okay. There must have been a conflict between our edits, since I have found a good biography of the band and I had put it on the article... right at the end there was a (SOURCE here) link, pointing directly to where I had extracted the text from. According to Wikipedia's license that is not exactly illegal, so I will jusr redo it. Thanks.

[edit] Why do you keep reverting me?

A message from User talk:216.153.214.94

I do not understand why you keep reverting my updates to John Kerry. There is NO POV violation with these most recent ones from 07.21.04:

[edit] President Nixon and Charles Colson discuss John Kerry

In a secretly recorded White House conversation of April 28, 1971 which came to light after the (Nixon Tapes) became public as a result of United States v. Nixon, then-President Richard Nixon discussed Kerry with his lawyer, Charles Colson.

Nixon said, "Well, he is sort of a phony, isn't he?" Colson agreed, and claimed that during the antiwar demonstrations that had just taken place, Kerry stayed at the home of a Georgetown socialite while the other protesters slept on the National Mall. Colson said, "He's politically ambitious and just looking for an issue. Yeah. He came back (from Vietnam) a hawk and became a dove when he saw the political opportunities." "Sure," said Nixon.

Around this time, the FBI engaged in surveillance of Kerry and other anti-war protesters. They followed them, recorded their speeches, took photographs, and reported their findings FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.

In May 1972, the FBI stopped monitoring Kerry's activities, stating in a final memorandum: "It should be noted that a review of the subject's file reveals nothing whatsoever to link subject with any violent type activity... Thus, considering the subject's apparently legitimate involvement in politics, it is recommended that no further investigation be conducted regarding subject until such time as it is warranted."

In 1993, Colson, who some years earlier had become a Born Again Christian and the founder of (Prison Fellowship Ministries), sent Kerry a letter asking for "forgiveness over any ways in which I hurt you in the past."

I've replied at User talk:Rex071404. -- Hadal 19:31, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy delete of Gohdan

You reverted my speedy delete of the Gohdan article. My impression at the time (as it is now) is that articles on video game bosses aren't encyclopedic. But I guess I was mistaken in flagging it for speedy when I could have put it up for VfD, and I apologize for the error. I'll try to refrain from speedy deleting articles of that nature in the future.

My question to you is this: do you really find articles like Gohdan and Fierce Deity worthy of inclusion in the Wikipedia? Doesn't allowing them open the floodgates for every video game mythos to get its own flock of uninformative substubs? I would move the information into Legend of Zelda if I knew enough about the game, but I don't.

I'll wait for your reply before doing anything to the articles. --Ardonik 03:10, Jul 29, 2004 (UTC)

Can we put Wikipedia's hyper-link on our web-site? Also, can I put http://www.Tongji.net into the page of Tongji University, which is still not completed yet. I would like to add all the information about Tongji University on that page for our Wikipedia.
