Hades means both the ancient Greek abode of the dead (the underworld) and the god of that place.

- Hades in Christianity - according to the New Testament the place where the dead will be.
- Hell in Christian beliefs. In that the New Testament was written in Greek and Ancient Greece/Roman Greece (along with Israel) was the backdrop of early Christianity, Hades is often used as a synonym for Hell.
