Hadaftimo (Somali: Hadaaftimo) is an ancient town in what was the Sanaag region, that is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The self-proclaimed autonomous state of Maakhir, currently unrecognized by the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia, also includes the town. The town has archaeological sites as well as ancient historic buildings.

[edit] Hadaaftimo Declaration

There is a famous declaration that came after a Grand meeting was held in Hadaaftimo in 1993 were the elders and the former Sultan Abdisalam declared that Somalia is one and the Warsangelis will not recognise any other entity.

Also Hadaaftimo suffered the horrendous attack of the rebel SNM in 1989 but suffered badly after the Hadaftimonians counter-attacked with the help of Somali government.

Hadaaftimo is peaceful city and it surrounded by lovely green mountains and people are famous for being wealthiest in the Sanaag Region. www.un.com

[edit] The Seat of the Sultan

Hadaaftimo is the seat of current Sultan of Warsangeli, Sultan Saed Sultan Abdisalam Sultanate of Mohamoud Ali Shire (Warsangeli Sultanates), which also have known as the Makhir Coast Sultanate.

Hadaaftimo is not far from city Badhan and they are sometimes called the twin cities as they are very close, only 30km.
