[edit] Works of Paul Fagius

Samuel Blanning translated and incorporated much of the text from the German wiki article on this fellow [[1], he commented that the list of works in the English article and the German article seem somewhat different. Would you be able to help resolve the confusion? Much obliged Sumergocognito 21:58, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A new Oxbridge user box

Hackloon...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Please take a look at the work in progress and comment on it. My main concerns are college abbreviations and color choice. I am using scarf colors for the colleges. Thank you. - LA @ 17:47, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Faculty of Theology, University of Oxford

Hello. You recently edited the page Faculty of Theology, University of Oxford. You changed 'Priest's Orders' to 'Holy Orders' as the qualification for canon professors at Christ Church. All the material that I have read describing these appointments has specifically used the term 'Priest's Orders'. 'Holy Orders' would mean that a deacon could be appointed to such a canonry but the implication in the advertisements is that the person must be a priest: Regius Professorship of Moral and Pastoral Theology, Regius Professorship of Divinity, Lady Margaret Professorship of Divinity. If you cannot suggest a good reason why 'Holy Orders' is better I think it should be changed back. Everything seems to point to the conclusion that the canon professors must be priests. The exception is the Regius Professor of Ecclesiastical History, who may be a lay canon. I'm not sure whether a deacon could be appointed to that position since he is neither a priest nor a layman. This would have been an issue if Diarmaid MacCulloch had wanted that job.--Oxonian2006 (talk) 12:38, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Probably best to reply here... Thanks for your message. The regulations only state "ordained", which would include Deacons. In any case, as you point out, the appointments are now open to laymen and non-Anglicans (eg Henry Mayr-Harting, who is a Catholic). The section should probably be edited to include that as well! Hackloon (talk) 20:15, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Which regulations are these? It's not that I'm unwilling to believe you - just that I haven't seen them. Are they in the University Statutes or the Statutes of Christ Church? Certainly according to the Canons of the Church of England a canon can be a deacon, but there could be further requirements on top of this set by the university or ChCh. If the professorships are open to deacons I wonder why the advertisements all stated that they must be priests. I have put a note for the Regius Professor of Ecclesiastical History explaining that the position can be held by a layperson who is a member of certain Churches. However, the Regius Professors of Divinity and Moral and Pastoral Theology and the Lady Margaret Professor do still have to be Anglican priests (or deacons if your source is correct). These canon professors are certainly not mentioned the Church of England (Miscellaneous Provisions) Measure 1995.--Oxonian2006 (talk) 22:59, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
