Hackajar (born January 31, 1982 in Chicago IL) is an active Wiki member with many traits. He is best known as an active member of the hacking community and has spoken at Defcon computer security conference in 2003,2004 and 2005 regarding credit card security online.

[edit] Early life

Hackajar grew up in Chicago until he was 12. He moved to San Jose California to be adopted by his biological Aunt. It was there in Silicon Valley that he became interested in computers. This interest was fueled by an open use policy at Martin Murphy, the middle school he attended. He was accepted into the Computer Business Academy at Live Oak High School and recevied the first two years of Cisco Systems networking Academy, and summer internship with Cisco Systems as well. This enabled him to secure a job at Alteon Web Systems (now Nortel Networks) when he graduated high school.

His sister "J" was part of an anti-gay case brought against this school in 1998 and settled in 2004 as well^[1]

After the 'Dot Com Bubble' burst in 2001 he moved to Las Vegas Nevada seeking out cheaper rent and better job oppertunities. Inital he arrived in town with only $40 in pocket and job with Pinkerton Security as an un-armed guard. He soon located a call center job with Dell computers. He worked as a tech support analyst until he left to work with Shift4, a credit card payment gateway (similar to IBill only for hotels), in July of 2002. It was his interest in the credit card industry and eye for software flaws then enabled him to become a professonal in the credit card security industry. This lead to writting speeches and papers regarding credit card security^[2]. In addition he also performed demo's demonstrating how flawed banks and credit card firms really are.

After news interviews with local and national outlets did not push the credit card industry to better their systems, he stopped speaking in regards to credit card security.^[3]

He was recurited for specialized computer security work at a computer security firm while attending Defcon, and in October of 2004 left Shift4 to take on broader computer security tasks with them. He still currently works in the security field with this firm.

He was an active member of dc702 - a local group that supports DEF_CON conference activities and contests - from 2003-2005^[4]. It was in the end of 2005 that he co-founded Vegas 2.0^[5] under split handle of Captin Vegas/Hackajar with co-founder the "Packet Baron". They use this group as a breeding ground for locating and educating geeks in Las Vegas interested in becoming hackers. Vegas 2.0 participates in the following contests during DefCon:

Amature Capture The Flag (aCTF)

They also host a fund rasier call 'theSummit' on Thusday ending BlackHat and beginning DefCon, to raise money for the EFF^[6]

Hackajar has spoken at Defcon 11, 12 and 13 in regards to Credit Card Security for merchants and payment gateways.

In 2006 DefCon 14 conference, the Vegas 2.0 team won the Scavenger Hunt contest after three years of competing. This enabled hackajar to win the coveted "Black Badge" and be invited back as a "Goon" next year. The "Black Badge" is a life time pass to DefCon to the holder for winning 1st place in select events at DefCon. Other contests where a badge can be won are CTF, Lockpicking and Hacker Jeporady.
