[edit] Notability

There has been a question of notablility for the article topic, hacker artist.

As the author of this article, and hacker artist myself, I feel that there should be an article describing what a hacker artist is. It is a different kind of artist, just like a painter and sculptor are different types of artists.

Hacker artists deserve to be known just as other types of artists are known here on wikipedia.

This is my first article I have created for wikipedia.org so I really need help crafting this article.

I think that tagging it for lack of notability before it's even finished is abit brash. Please help instead of bash/delete. --lile 18:45, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Give the article a chance.

Hacker artists are notable.

Similar to digital artists, computer artists, and the art of programming - that is coding. Some of which is as beautiful as the best sonnets, novels, paintings, but takes the time to learn to appreciate it. E,g, you can't appreciate French poetry, if you can't understand French.

[edit] Upload a photo or two, okay?

This article needs a picture of some technological art.

Can you get mkl to release permissions on the Cubatron, the world's largest true 3D color graphics display? That would be a great photo for the article, but maybe needs to be cropped a little to fit well in the upper-right corner of small screens. 71.132.131.237 23:53, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please move to "Hacker artist"

Anyone who is logged in (I only edit anonymously these days) please click on the "move" tab and change "Hacker Artists" to "Hacker artist" to meet Wikipedia's style and title policy/guidelines. A redirect from the original title will be automatically created. Thank you. 71.132.131.237 00:13, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Almost there... Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Prefer singular nouns -- so please move again to "Hacker artist" without the "s" at the end. The good thing about moves is that they make redirects. 71.132.131.237 01:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Restored talk page

I have restored the Talk page which had items blanked by 71.132.131.237. Please do not blank Talk pages; they exist as an important part of the history of an article; if you need to update a request in the light of following developments (like a page move), make an addition to your edit, but do not, under any circumstances, remove others' comments (except obvious vandalism) and avoid removing your own. Simply because you consider the matter of notability settled does not mean that every other Wikipedia editor agrees. And as to the page move, I think the page probably belongs at Hacker art, referring to the phenomenon as such as opposed to particular practitioners; others may wish to note the previous name, request for move, etc., without having to piece it together by digging through the article history. Thank you. --MCB 03:50, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Change from artist to arts?

In an edit summary, Sparkit (talk - contribs), said on 9:30, 8 February 2007 (UTC):

this article might work better if it was about the "art", rather than the "artist"

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bm2005.jpg

Image:Bm2005.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Earliest usage

I just removed a claim to the "earliest usage" which stated: "Perhaps the earliest usage of the term was December 4, 1995, on Art.Net, when hacker artists were invited to join..."

First, there was no source/reference on this. Second of all, a quick search on google groups turned up references to "hacker/artist" as a descriptive term prior to this, including the following reference from 1988 in comp.sys.amiga:

It is clear that only a combination hacker/artist can be a winner in a contest with such restrictive rules. I had an occasion to talk to a few non-hacker artists who ended up spending more time on trying to figure out what the rules meant and how to comply with them than they did actually producing the "glitz" for their demo. [1]

Rather than try to figure out the earliest usage, i just decided to remove this superfluous statement. Jon Lon Sito (talk) 06:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
