David James Navarre, born December 16, 1965 in Detroit, Michigan. Graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School and Michigan State University. Wikipedian since March 2005. Currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia.

While I am probably not related to Henri Navarre, I may be related to Henry Navarre, (known as Henry III of Navarre and Henry IV of France). Melissa and I do have a dog named Henry, but we refer to him as Henry Henderson, in line with her family (Melissa's father's name was Richard Henry Henderson and I like the name because of Henry V of England, thanks to William Shakespeare). Some people confuse me with Dave Navarro, who is slightly more musically talented than I, or John Navarre, who attended that other university and has played in 5 more NFL games than I have. I don't think I've ever been confused with Colonel Stuart Navarre, USMC, of the 5th Marines.

Michael D. Brown was one of my neighbors during Katrina, though I didn't meet him until later (he has nice dogs with whom my dog Henry enjoyed playing while they lived near us). I went to the same school as actor Courtney B. Vance (I knew who he was, but not sure we ever spoke, as I am 5 years younger) and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, though Ballmer graduated before I arrived (1973 vs 1976). One of Creighton Abrams's grand-daughters lives near us. At one point, my older brother, Russ, worked for General Dynamics, which makes the M-1 Abrams Tank.

[edit] Wedding

On 2007-10-06, Melissa Henderson and I were wed at the Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda, Maryland. Our photographer was Joy Jensen and a nice slide-show can be found on her website. Henry also was featured in an article entitled, "Here Comes the Dog" in January 2008 issue of Washingtonian Magazine, since he was in the wedding as ring-bearer.

[edit] Online Gaming

Note that while I have been editing and writing a number of articles involving Counter-Strike and CS clans, I don't play Counter-Strike. In fact, I am so lousy at it that I feel like everyone is cheating. I believe that I last tried CS in 2001 or 2002.

At one time, I was the Commander-in-Chief of Axis Forces in the Battle for Europe: Day of Defeat Campaign #3. I had been commander of the Duetsche Afrika Korps (DAK) defense squad in the first campaign, organizing about 50 gamers to fight in the defensive role. I was promoted to General of the 4th Division (sorry, my memory fails me here) for the next campaign, doing a lot of work to organize all of the divisions. During this time, I joined the Kampfgruppe Online Gaming Regiment (KFG), which tried to be more than a clan - having organized around 1999 and persisted in several games. As KFG was in the midst of some troubles (having recruited too fast), I was introduced to Sturmgrenadier, for which I purchased Planetside in order to join. I loved playing Planetside with Sturmgrenadier, but gave it up and wish a new game would come along that's as compelling.
