Haßloch is a municipality in the district of Bad Dürkheim, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated approximately 8 km east of Neustadt an der Weinstraße and 20 km south-west of Ludwigshafen. The village's origins go back the 5th century when Romans first settled.

  • ca. 400 AD – First settlement by Romans
  • ca. 600 AD – The village is founded
  • 773/774 AD – First mentioned as „Hasalaha“
  • 985 AD Salischer Kirchenraub
  • 900/1000 AD – Haßloch becomes a "Reichsdorf"
  • 1186 – Kaiser Friedrich I. Barbarossa spends a night in Haßloch
  • 1621 – Desertification in the Thirty Years' War by the Spanish
  • 1815/16 – Leinigen and the Pfalz become part of the Bavarian kingdom until 1945
  • 1945 – Haßloch becomes part of the French Allied Occupation Zone
  • 1969 – The Landkreis Neustadt an der Weinstraße is split and Haßloch joins the new Landkreis Bad Dürkheim.
  • 2003 – People try to rename Haßloch to e.g. „Liebeshügel“

[edit] Famous for

  • Haßloch is famous for its size. As of 1.March 2005 there were living 21.582 residents. The village could have city status but it never was an issue, being the biggest village throughout Germany.
  • New Products are tested in Haßloch, it's is one of a few testmarkets in Germany. The GFK (association for consumption research) leads these studies. E.g. commercials are added in specially-made TV Guides and are available in local stores. Even Germany TV ratings are tracked because the village is possible there to track the Television recipients.
  • The Holiday Park, a famous German amusement park is situated south of Haßloch. It lies in a forest, the "Haßlocher Wald". Its famous roller-coaster "Expedition GeForce" has been voted four times best roller coaster in the world (by Internet Coaster Poll: 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005).
