From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hüsnü Şenlendirici is a Turkish clarinettist, born 12 July 1976, in Bergama.

Şenlendirici combines the melodies of his Anatolian heritage (particularly his Aegean homeland's musical traditions) with the jazz sensibilities of the west. He has worked with major stars internationally and domestically including Turkish stars Athena, Kibariye and Mercan Dede amongst others.

Şenlendirici has his own band, Laço Tayfa, which collaborated with the famous American ensemble, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, to record the album, In the Buzzbag. Şenlendirici made two other albums with the band, Bergama Gaydasi and Hicaz Dolap, before releasing a solo album, The Joy of the Clarinet.

[edit] History

Şenlendirici comes from a Roma family rooted deeply in musical culture. His grandfather, Hüsnü Şenlendirici was a clarinettist, and his other grandfather and his father played the trumpet. He started playing clarinet when he was five years old. He attended the Turkish State Music Conservatory at Istanbul University in 1988 to study music at the age of 12. However, he dropped out of the school 4 years later.

In those years, he played with the famous Magnetic Band, a band put together by percussionist Okay Temiz. He took part in Embrio's recordings, and went on tours together. After quitting school, he has devoted himself to music and he hasn't dropped his clarinet ever since.[citation needed]

He became especially more popular[citation needed] after his recent controversial relations between a Turkish singer, Deniz Seki after having recently had a new baby with his wife, Nazire Şenlendirici.[citation needed] Hüsnü Şenlendirici never denied his affair with Deniz Seki and filed a lawsuit to divorce his wife.[citation needed]
