Hüseyin Avni Sözen Anadolu Lisesi, Hasal, is a small, selective grammar (or magnet) secondary school located in the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey. Founded in 1984, the school has a history of distinguished scholarship, and is particularly well known for the strength of its English language study programme. It has a very strong academic record, with a high proportion of pupils proceeding to Boğaziçi (15% in OSS 2006) and İTÜ(18% in OSS 2006) and other prominent universities. In 2006 OSS, 45% of the graduates preferred to continue their higher education in engineering, 16% in medical departments. 67% of the graduates were placed in their first 5 choices. Today, Hasal consistently ranks among the top high schools in the nation as it is cited in a recent article. The school achieved some remarkable success in nation-wide sports competitions, including several volleyball, basketball, and chess championship cups in its reserve. The school's traditional Talaş Börek Günü Day in late June occupies an important role in the school's culture, and serves as a meeting day for its alumni. Lately, Şafak MİRİOĞLU, class of 07, became the 1st in OSS examination amongst 1.7 million high school graduates. According to OSS 07, Hasal ranked in the top 5 in all categories in Turkey. [1]
