Høybråten is a railway station on Hovedbanen in Oslo, Norway. Located at Høybråten, it is served by the Oslo Commuter Rail line 400 operated by Norges Statsbaner running from Lillestrøm via Oslo S to Asker.
[edit] History
The station was one of the first cases launched by the Høybråten Pioneering Society, and they sent their first application to Aker City Council on May 26, 1906. In 1918 the pioneering society was successful, after many rejections, and a lot was provided by Ralph Tschudi. Aker municipality demanded that the railway station have road access, and the pioneering society built what is now known as Linjeveien. There was also a fee towards the building of the station of NOK 7,000, payed by the society (NOK 1,000) and the rest by Holm and Tschudi.
On drawings for the station from July 1920 it is named Stig, but when it opened it was given the name Høybråten when it opened in 1921. The farm Stig was right beside the station, even though the station was built on the former property of the farm Stovner. At first the station was served with steam train, taking 40 minutes to Oslo. This time has been reduced to 15 minutes.
The station is still standing, but is used by the neighbourhood community of Høybråten, how took over the building from NSB in 1994. The original wooden bridge over the station has been replaced with a steel bridge.
