Gymnastics at the 1992 Summer Olympics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gymnastics at the 1992 Summer Olympics was represented by two different gymnastics disciplines: artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics. For the 1992 Summer Olympics, the artistic gymnastics competition was in the Palau Sant Jordi from July 26 to August 2, and the rhythmic gymnastics competition was held at the Palau d'Esports de Barcelona from August 6 to August 8. In artistic gymnastics 14 events were contested (6 for women and 8 for men), while in rhythmic gymnastics - one women's event.
In artistic gymnastics the scoring rule New Life was introduced for the first time at the Olympic Games. According to it, gymnast's scores in the team competition (and individual competitor's scores in the qualification round) were not carried over to the all-around and the event finals. Other features of the format of competition were basically the same, as for gymnastics events at the previous Olympics.
