The Gymnasium der Stadt Kerpen is a Gymnasium and an Europaschule (europe school) in Kerpen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The school was founded in 1968. Since 2001 the additional name Europaschule (europe school) is official. The school has approximate 145 teachers and 2,150 students.[2]

The school has at one’s disposal an auditorium, a cafeteria, a refectory, two triple gyms[2], a library with more than 33,000 books and CD-ROMs, band practice rooms[2] and different school yards.

[edit] Bilingual education

A peculiarity at the Gymnasium der Stadt Kerpen is the bilingual education. Since school year 1995/1996 a bilingual German-English branch is offered. In grades 5 and 6 the students who decide for the bilingual branch have seven lessons in English a week in stead of five lessons. Geography is taught in English language from grade 7, politics from grade 8 and history from grade 9.

At the sixth form (grades 11 to 13 respective 10 to 12) the subjects are diveded up in the categorys social sciences, Mathematics and natural sciences, languages and “other subjects”. Special subjects at the sixth form of the Gymnasium der Stadt Kerpen are pedagogy, psychology, right, social sciences, nutrition science, technology, foreign language correspondence English respective economy English, Italian and literature.

At the sixth form the students can make a vocational education as foreign language correspondent. The students who decide to make this vocational education and pass this successful get besides their Abitur a finished apprenticeship/vocational education.

A lot of activitys in groups are offered. This activitys take place at Mondays and Wednesdays. The activitys in groups at Mondays take place from 2:35 p.m. until 4:05 p.m. and at Wednesdays from 1:50 p.m. until 3:20 p.m. The number of the activitys in groups on Mondays in the first school half-year amounted to 16 and on Wednesdays 25. Worth mentioning of this 41 activitys in groups are for example the vocational education as sport leader, the gliding and the carnival.

The students at the Gymnasium der Stadt Kerpen have the possibility to take part in student exchange programs. The partner schools are located in Argentina[2], Bolivia[2], China, France, Italy, Nicaragua, Poland, Russia, Spain (Gran Canaria and Tenerife), Sweden, United Kingdom and in the United States (Pennsylvania and Texas).
