The Social Service Division was inaugurated at Bungamati, Khokana. This, in fact, marked the culmination of years of Gyanodaya's active but informal involvement in social service and community work to uplift the condition of the deprived and underprivileged as well as help in the rehabilitation of the victims of natural calamities. For Gyanodaya, it meant the institutionalization of its long contribution in the area of social and community affairs. At the community level, it meant the realization of the educational aspirations of many underprivileged and backward community children and illiterate adult women. This Division has a Pre-Primary School with complete facilities --- classroom, teaching aids, play area, library, etc. --- and provides free uniforms and shoes to children of the area attending the school. It also runs informal education classes for all interested adult women at the Centre every day from Sunday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Presently, some 30 children and a sizeable number of women benefit from the programmes run at the Centre.
