Gwen Matthewman

Gwen Matthewman of Featherstone, West Yorkshire was the Guinness World Record holder in knitting between 1980 and 2005. She attained a speed of 111 stitches per minute in a test at Phildar's Wool Shop in Central Street Leeds on September 29, 1980. Her technique has been analysed by Japanese professors on the subject since.

However in 2005 Miriam Tegals of the Netherlands finally broke the record, attaining 118 stitches in one minute.
